AbstractThis report gives a comprehensive overview of the situation of combined heat and power (CHP)and grid-connected heat supply in Germany. The support for CHP and heat grids provided by theGerman CHP Act in 2009-2012 is shown and compared to the results of other support instruments.Based on an analysis of different literature sources on the potentials of CHP and gridconnectedheat supply, and a plant-specific consideration of power plants that are planned orunder construction, the future expansion of CHP is estimated, taking into account the findings onCHP development in recent years. An analysis of the profitability of CHP plants is conducted fordifferent plant sizes. An overview of instruments which involve CHP is provided (German CHPAct, German EEG, emissions trading) and on this basis recommendations for action are derived.17.
