On the Waters – the Bodden and Baltic Sea
Many a captain, who went fishing before, nowadays accompanies passengers with his
boat to the chalk cliffs or the Baltic seaside resorts and loves to tell about legendary ravines,
water sports on Jasmund or the best fishing grounds. Jasmund chalk cliff never looks
so beautiful as seen from the sea. Holiday cruisers drive close by the coast and therefore
passengers get a good view of the high cliff woods in Jasmund national park. Friendly
colleagues, often dressed in the colours of their ships, offer tickets at the harbour. Along
the pier there are several modern cruisers with glass verandas awaiting their passengers
to take them out to the sea. Enjoying the sunshine, a slight swell and the fresh Baltic Sea
breeze we listen to the captain’s explanations while passing the 9 km long chalk coast with
its legendary ravines, sights and secrets. When we finally reach “Königsstuhl” we already
learned a lot about this mythical world and are ready for coffee and cake from the pantry.
On the way back there is time to ask the captain for some more information on water
activities. ”You are immediately out on the open sea from Sassnitz. That is why game
fishers love to come here, to catch cod but also some salmon.“ And water sports? Sailors
find many guest berths at Jasmund marinas and an enticing sailing area, as well as plenty
opportunities for surfing in the sea or at the shallow Bodden waters.
