Lohme – Health Resort for Hikers
The first seaside resort of the island in 1855 is today the secret princess of destinations
on Rügen isle. The state-approved health resort has kept its charming appeal
with villas built in a modest spa architecture. These and the unspoilt scenery,
quiet even during the main season, make the Northern resort a true insiders’ tip.
The little Baltic Sea harbour is situated in a valley, being formed during the last
ice age. It is very popular as a maritime resting place, but also an ideal starting
point for cruises to the Danish isle of Bornholm. Lohme with its stony beaches
is the only place on Rügen where one may watch the sun sink into the sea. But
Lohme is also a paradise for hikers. Four hiking trails, 8 to 16km long, are signposted.
They are especially attractive in spring and autumn when natures’ metamorphoses
are on the way. One may walk along the high cliff path to chalk cliff
“Königsstuhl”, out into Jasmund Bodden scenery or to the artisans living in the
region. Castle Ranzow really is “something special” on Rügen isle, offering a golf
academy by the sea. Hagen is the more rural counterpart to Lohme and there
are other still authentic villages in the neighbourhood, all of them also offering
beautiful holiday homes. In Nardevitz thatched roofs and a historical cobblestone
road fascinates the traveller, in Nipmerow there is a smoke house and a
camping site in the woods. At organic farm Bisdamitz one may take a snack and
even the tiny village Blandow is prepared to welcome guests.
