EUROPAN 11
WÜRZBURG / NUTZUNGEN
FL 012 HELIANTHUS
in Paris.
FL 012 HELIANTHUS
REPORT ON THE JURY MEETING
The design and detailing of the submission are plausible
and well thought out. The proposal develops a radical
alternative to the requirements of the master plan
and implements this alternative consistently, including
layout plans.
The housing typologies and the idea of inserted maisonette
flats are surprising and show that the author
considered in depth how this large-scale format can
offer a home to the individual parties.
This 1.8 kilometre long building reminds one of Emile
Aillaud’s large-scale residential building projects
in Paris, although both social outcome and facility
management problems showed that such large-scale
projects are neither able to form neighbourhoods nor
to respond to changes in an appropriate manner.
There are considerable doubts about whether the
elevation actually provides an offer to use the open
landscape. It can be assumed that this will actually
more tend to create spaces of darkness and fear.
The submission manifests an approach to residential
buildings which has been critically discussed for
years. There are poor options for people to identify
themselves with the flat or the building. Furthermore it
is doubtful whether there will be enough demand for
this quantity and type of flats in the medium term in
Würzburg.
As a positive aspect it has to be mentioned that the
submission breaks with the large-scale landscape form
of the runway, formulating a turning point. This constitutes
a clear statement compared to considerations
made so far and can establish new qualities.
HT 029 LE NOUvEAU TRIANON
The bold and self-assured new interpretation of the
former runway as a Baroque axis is initially baffling.
After a closer look it is, however, convincing. With
reference to “Le Petit Trianon” in Versailles the draft
proposal calls for a stronger combination of the natural
landscape qualities of the Lehnleiten and the planned
geometrical park, likewise the urban structures between
the future large-scale university extensions and
the small-scale residential development of the master
plan.
The authors orientate themselves to Rottendorfer
Strasse and the former runway, developing a divided
spatial structure: perpendicularly oriented row
