Dynamic SAP R/3 resources
within the POLYTEC GROUP
Dynamic SAP R/3 resources for a dynamic company.
Project SAP R/3 Outsourcing
Last year, a total of three companies
of POLYTEC GROUP, meaning
almost 1,000 users, operated the
ERP System SAP R/3 in addition
to POLYTEC INTERIOR GmbH due
to the acquisitions of the companies
now called POLYTEC INTEX
GmbH & Co KG and POLYTEC
COMPOSITES GERMANY including
the plants in Slovakia.
These companies have their own
computer centres for their SAP
environment.
As enhancements of this SAP R/3
environment had already been
planned for POLYTEC COMPOSITES
GERMANY and POLYTEC INTERIOR,
as well, it was decided to implement
a standardised solution for
all companies in the context of a
uniform ERP strategy.
In future, the operation of SAP R/3
should be more cost efficient and
flexible and should ensure a more
effective use of synergies.
As the investments, the capital
tie-up resulting there from and
the follow-up costs for the establishment
of a professional computer
centre environment would
have been very high in order to
meet the requirements of an automotive
supplier as regards availability,
security and flexibility,
it was decided to outsource the
services to a professional service
provider.
The catalogue of requirements for
outsourcing was provided to a total
of six providers in the context
of an Invitation to Bid. The concept
and the economic figures offered
by T-Systems and their solution
called “Dynamic Services for
SAP Solutions“ have persuaded, so
this company was finally awarded
the contract.
The overall project is now divided
in a total of four partial projects
to migrate the operation of the
systems to the computer centre of
T-System and to logically link the
systems.

“Dynamic Services for SAP Solutions“
- what is that?
“Dynamic Services for SAP
Solutions“ is the operating concept
of T-Systems, which, contrary
to classic outsourcing companies,
provides all components and services
of SAP solutions in a flexible
and secure manner and tailored to
the customer’s demand.
The customer books the required
computer performance and storage
capacity from a pool of several
hundred servers available.
If a customer needs a higher computer
performance e.g. for a SAP
release change, they can book it,
a few days in advance, for a defined
period of time and this service
will be cancelled as soon as it
is no longer required. This means
that customers do not have to order
all the hardware and software
required for peak capacity.
Finally, they only pay for the resources
they really use and these
services are provided in a professional
and certified system environment.
This means a reduction
of the IT costs by simultaneously
maintaining the required service
level.

After the completion of the project,
POLYTEC will have enough
flexibility in its SAP R/3 system
to meet the requirements of the
company’s dynamic development
process and will be pre-pared for
future challenges.

Projekt SAP R/3 Outsourcing
Durch Akquisitionen und den
Zukauf der heutigen POLYTEC
INTEX GmbH & Co KG und der
POLYTEC COMPOSITES GERMANY
gemeinsam mit den Werken in der
Slovakei, ergab sich letztes Jahr
die Situation, dass insgesamt
drei Unternehmen der POLYTEC
GROUP das ERP System SAP R/3
mit zusammen fast 1.000 Benutzern
im Einsatz haben.
Das SAP R/3 System der POLYTEC
INTEX wurde durch die ehemalige
Muttergesellschaft im zentralen
Rechenzentrum betrieben und
somit musste eine Trennung der
Systeme von der damaligen Muttergesellschaft
bis Ende des vergangenen
Jahres herbeigeführt
werden.
Die POLYTEC COMPOSITES
GERMANY und die POLYTEC
INTERIOR betreiben in eigenen
Rechenzentren deren SAP Umgebung.
Da bei diesen Firmen
ebenfalls Erweiterungen der SAP
R/3 Umgebung anstehen, wurde
im Rahmen einer einheitlichen
ERP Strategie eine standardisierte
Lösung für alle Unternehmen angestrebt.
SAP R/3 soll zukünftig kostengünstiger
und flexibler betrieben
werden und Synergien in diesen
Umfeld noch besser genutzt werden.
Mittels Definition eines Anforderungskatalog
und der wirtschaftlichen
Gegenüberstellung musste
als erstes eine Entscheidung herbeigeführt
werden, ob zukünftig
SAP R/3 weiterhin im Eigenbetrieb
innerhalb der POLYTEC GROUP oder
als Dienstleistung eines Outsourcing
Anbieters betrieben werden soll.
Da die Investitionen, die dadurch
bedingte Kapitalbindung und die
Folgekosten allein, für die Schaffung
einer professionellen Rechenzentrumsumgebung
in dieser
Größenordnung sehr hoch gewesen
wären um den Anforderungen
als Automobilzulieferer in punkto
Verfügbarkeit, Sicherheit und Flexibilität
gerecht zu werden, wurde
die Entscheidung zugunsten einer
Outsourcing Alternative bei einem
professionellen Anbieter getroffen.
Der Anforderungskatalog für das
Outsourcing wurde im Rahmen
einer Ausschreibung insgesamt
sechs Anbietern zur Verfügung
gestellt, die nach Angebotsabgabe
und Präsentation der Outsourcing-
Lösung bewertet wurden.
Konzeptionell und wirtschaftlich
konnte die T-Systems mit ihrer
Lösung „Dynamic Services for SAP
Solutions“ überzeugen und den
Auftrag für das Projekt gewinnen.
Dieses wurde in insgesamt
vier Teilprojekte gegliedert, um
den Betrieb der Systeme in das
Rechenzentrum der T-Systems zu
überführen und danach die Systeme
logisch zusammenzuführen.

„Dynamic Services for SAP Solutions“
- Was ist das ?
„Dynamic Services for SAP
Solutions“ ist das dynamische
Betriebskonzept der T-systems,
dass im Gegensatz zu klassischen
Outsourcing Unternehmen je nach
Bedarf alle Komponenten und Services
von SAP Lösungen flexibel
und sicher zur Verfügung stellt.
Aus einem Pool von mehreren
hundert Servern bucht man die
erforderliche Rechnerleistung und
Speicherkapazität. Benötigt man
z.B. für einen SAP Versionswechsel
vorübergehend mehr Rechnerleistung,
kann diese für einen
definierten Zeitraum innerhalb
von ein paar Tagen zugebucht
werden und danach auch wieder
abgegeben werden. Die gebuchte
Hard- und Software muss also
nicht permanent für Spitzenlasten
ausgelegt sein.
Letztendlich bezahlt man nur die
Ressourcen, die auch wirklich verbraucht
werden, und das in einer
professionellen und zertifizierten
Systemumgebung. Somit können
die IT-Kosten bei gleichzeitiger
Beibehaltung der erforderlichen
Service Level reduziert werden.

weitere SAP R/3 Rollouts

Nach Umsetzung des Projektes
wird POLYTEC über die Flexibilität
im SAP R/3 Bereich verfügen, um
dem dynamischen Entwicklungsprozess
des Unternehmens gerecht
werden zu können und für
zukünftige Herausforderungen
gerüstet zu sein.
