their problems, to go out of Syria, not<br />
even to Lebanon or Turkey. So yeah, we<br />
did it. We made the decision to leave<br />
after 7 months because we didn’t feel<br />
save. But you can’t compare it to the<br />
problems that the people who are still<br />
there have now.<br />
V: So you feel like you made the right<br />
decision?<br />
Tammam: It was not about “right”.<br />
Because we can’t say that people who<br />
choose to stay are wrong.<br />
V: What’s the biggest difference?<br />
Tammam: Damascus was a great city,<br />
like any great city around the world.<br />
To me Dubai is not a big city. It’s a big<br />
place. It’s not the place I wish to live<br />
in. It is good to live in because of the<br />
safety, but it was not my dream to live<br />
here.<br />
V: So it was safety versus inspiration?<br />
Tammam: I had to think about my<br />
family. Like I said, we were lucky to<br />
find this chance. It was hard, and it is<br />
still hard. It is not our final destination<br />
in life. But we can’t go back. Not right<br />
now, probably never. It is hard to feel<br />
like you are not in the right place for<br />
your inspiration, but sometimes you<br />
don’t get any other options. It is still<br />
difficult to think about that.<br />
V: How do you create your art now
