THE OPEN CLOUD PROJECT THE OPEN CLOUD PROJECT
Vöcklabruck und Kremstal gebastelt werden. Bausätze gibt es kostenlos
an allen ABC-Check-in-Stationen, wo alle Klangwolken-MitspielerInnen
ihre fertigen Buchstaben auch registrieren und mit einem Funkempfänger
ausstatten lassen können.
Whether they make up an SMS, an e-mail, a Facebook post or a handwritten
missive, letters are the elementary particles of our communication.
The deadline for adding another letter to this huge alphabet isn’t until
just about the last minute. You can craft yours at the ABC Workshop, in
the comfort of your own home, or at an OTELO open technology lab
in Gmunden, Vöcklabruck and Kremstal. Components are available free
of charge at all ABC Check-in Stations, where you can also register your
finished letter and get it equipped with a radio receiver.

Hier stehen während der Öffnungszeiten des Museum of the Future sechs
Arbeitstische, 26 Buchstabensets von A bis Z sowie verschiedenste
Materialien kostenlos für die Verwirklichung eigener Buchstabenideen
zur Verfügung. Gruppen bis 15 Personen können sich unter center@aec.at
sowie telefonisch unter +43.732.7272.51 für eigene ABC-Workshops anmelden.
Die Buchstaben werden anschließend zur Inspiration der nächsten
Bastler Innen teils im ABC-Showcase im 1. Stock, teils in der ABC-Gallery
im Foyer ausgestellt. Dort können sie ab 13. 8. bereits mit Funkempfängern
bestückt abgeholt werden.

This is where you can get access to six workspaces, any one of 26
(A-Z) letter kits and various other materials to use in fashioning your
letters. It’s all free of charge and available any time during the Museum
of the Future’s opening hours. Groups of up to 15 can preregister for their
own ABC Workshop by sending an e-mail to center@aec.at or by calling
+43.732.7272.51. To serve as inspiration for the next wave of creative
tinkerers, the letters will then go on display in the ABC Showcase on the 1st
Upper Level or in the ABC Gallery in the Lobby, which is also where you can
pick up your letters—complete with a radio receiver—beginning on August 13 th .

geladen Das online zusammengestellte CharacterBook bietet die Möglichkeit,
mit anderen BuchstabenbaumeisterInnen Kontakt aufzunehmen und
E-Mails in einer bunten Klangwolkenschrift zu ver senden, die sich aus allen

Each letter produced in the Ars Electronica Center’s ABC Workshop is
photographed on site together with its creator, and these colorful portraits
immediately become part of the ABC Gallery on the voestalpine Klangwolke
website. People who create their letters at home or in one of the OTELOs can
photograph their work themselves and upload the pictures to the website
The CharacterBook assembled online offers letter designers the opportunity
to get in contact with their peers and to exchange e-mails with one another
in a colorful Klangwolke script that consists of all registered letters.

Im ABC-Showcase gibt es Beispiele dafür kennenzulernen, wie Buchstaben
seit vielen Jahrhunderten von Hand verziert werden und wie sie bis heute
die menschliche Fantasie anregen. Der Bogen reicht von einer iPad-
Applikation der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek zum Bewundern kunstvoll
gestalteter alter Handschriften bis zu interaktiver Software.
The ABC Showcase presents examples of how people down through the
ages have adorned letters by hand, and how the alphabet has excited the
human imagination. Plus, you can use the Bavarian State Library’s iPad
application to admire magnificent old manuscripts, as well as interactive
software.

In den ABC-Check-in-Stationen gibt es bereits in den Tagen vor dem
Festival alle Informationen zur voestalpine Klangwolke 2012 – und kostenlose
Leuchtbuchstabenbausätze. Wer seinen Buchstaben bereits fertiggestellt
hat, kann ihn hier bis zum letzten Moment registrieren und mit
einem Funkempfänger ausstatten lassen.
Complete information about the 2012 voest alpine Klangwolke will be available
during the days leading up to the big event at the ABC Check-in Stations.
And that’s not all: Anybody who’d like to participate can pick up an
illuminated letter kit free of charge here. Right up to the last minute, those
who have already completed their letters can register them here and equip
them with a radio receiver.
Klangwolken-ABC-Parade

Ziel: Hauptplatz, Mobiles Ö1 Atelier
Am Samstag, dem 1. September, ist das Ars Electronica Center Maindeck
um 17:00 Treffpunkt für alle Buchstabenbastlerinnen und -bastler, die mit
ihren Leuchtbuchstaben nicht bis zur voestalpine Klangwolke 2012 am
Abend warten wollen. Alle sind dazu eingeladen! Angeführt vom voestalpine
Blasorchester zieht die Parade aus Menschen und Buchstaben los. Gegen
18:00 trifft die Klangwolken-Karawane schließlich am Hauptplatz beim
Mobilen Ö1 Atelier ein. Dort zeigen Tanzgruppen von Hip-Hop bis Volkskultur
ihre individuellen Buchstabenchoreografien, in denen sie Buchstaben
zu Wörtern formen. Die besten dieser Performances sind wenig später
nochmals vor viel größerem Publikum zu sehen. Nämlich bei der voestalpine
Klangwolke 2012, wo die Gruppen ihr Können in einer eigenen Szene der
Wolke im Netz vorführen können.
All Klangwolke letter designers who just can’t delay gratification any longer
can gather on the Ars Electronica Center’s Maindeck on September 1 st at
5 PM. Everyone’s invited! With voestalpine’s own marching band leading
the way, a parade of people and letters will proceed across the Nibelungen
Bridge. Around 6 PM, the Klangwolke caravan converges on the Mobile Ö1
Atelier on Linz’s Main Square, where terpsichorean troops ranging from
hip-hoppers to folk dancers will display their individualize choreographies
in which letters coalesce into words. The best of these performances will be
reprised shortly thereafter before a much larger audience. The groups will
strut their stuff in the main event—the 2012 voestalpine Klangwolke.
KLANGWOLKENMINIATUREN
Auch akustisch ist die voestalpine Klangwolke 2012 das Werk vieler
Menschen. Die Ars Electronica lädt ein, ganz persönliche Klangwolkenminiaturen
zu produzieren und auf www.aec.at/klangwolke hochzuladen.
Diese können aus Melodien, Alltagsgeräuschen, akustischen Momentaufnahmen
oder woraus auch immer bestehen – sie dürfen lediglich maximal
1 Minute lang sein und müssen ein akustisches Ereignis beinhalten.
Gestaltet werden können sie mit jedem beliebigen Werkzeug vom Smartphone
bis zum Heimstudio. Im Ars Electronica Center bietet sich das neue
SoundLab als perfekt ausgestattete Werkstatt für das Aufnehmen und
Produzieren von Klangwolkenminiaturen an. Am Sonntag, dem 2. September,
sind dann alle eingereichten Klangwolken miniaturen über die 250.000 Watt
starke Klangwolkenanlage zu hören.
Acoustically as well, the 2012 voestalpine Klangwolke is a joint effort.
Ars Electronica cordially invites you to produce your own personal soundcloudminiature
and to upload it to www.aec.at/klangwolke. There are all
sorts of creative possibilities: melodies, the noise of everyday life, or just
interesting sounds you happen to hear. The only proviso: these acoustic
events can’t be more than a minute long. You can use any tool you’ve got:
from a smartphone to a home studio. Of course, the ideally equipped
workspace in which to record and produce your soundcloudminiature is
the Ars Electronica Center’s new SoundLab.
On Sunday, September 2 nd , all submitted soundcloudminiatures will suffuse
downtown Linz via the Klangwolke’s 250,000-watt sound system.
