THE PUSZTA AND LAKE TISZA
What should I do in my leisure time? Study, have fun, meet
people, travel? This is always a dilemma for young people. Our
advice: do it all at the same time, you can here! All it takes is
you and the Puszta.
Close to a hundred thermal water spas with their wave and
bubble pools, giant slides, cave baths, whirlpools and massage
rooms await you. If you like a more romantic environment, the
sandy beaches beside the Tisza River are the place for you. Then,
after a refreshing dip, enjoy one of the many riverside events:
Abádszalók Summer, Szeged Youth Days, Vásárosnamény Tisza
Party programmes – beach football, beach ball, concerts, fashion
shows and much more. And what about a kayak tour on the
Tisza? Few things in the world can compare to the experience of
an exciting river tour on the unspoiled Tisza or the Körös Rivers
where there is no Internet, no phone, just relaxation. An organised
boat tour or a photo safari are a good way of learning something
new about Nature, but if you feel brave enough you could also
try a survival camp among the islands on Lake Tisza. You can
churn the waves on a motor craft in the Abádszalók Basin. The
Hortobágy and Lake Tisza Bird Reserves, proud of their place
on the World Heritage list, are unique in Europe. You can make
many “discoveries” in the visitor centres and learning trails of the
Bugac Puszta, Kiskunság National Park, Körös-Maros National
Park, and Duna-Dráva National Park. The spring and autumn bird
migrations, the flocks of ancient breeds of sheep, galloping herds
of horses, and Hungarian long-horn cattle quietly chewing the
cud are all typical features of this region, like the wooden belfries
in the Upper Tisza region and windmills in the Nagykunság
region. The Ópusztaszer National Historical Memorial Park stands
out among our sites dedicated to remembering the past: you
can admire the Feszty panorama, the nomad skanzen and the
mediaeval village. The famous embroideries of Kalocsa, the
black pottery of Nádudvar, the homespun of Bereg, the lace from
Kiskunhalas and the Toby jugs from Tiszafüred all bear witness to
the beautiful crafts of the Great Plain. To complete the picture we
