ihre tore in Abu dhabi. nun reihen sich die vereinigten Arabischen
emirate neben new york, london, Paris, Mailand und
shanghai in die lange liste der Akademie-standorte ein.
die 1992 von dem Broadway- und Filmproduzenten Jerry
sherlocK gegründete hochschule zeichnet sich durch
intensive studiengänge und Workshops aus. „learning by
doing“ lautet das Motto des renommierten instituts, das
Theorie mit praktischen Übungen kombiniert.
Die aufstrebende Filmindustrie der Golfregion soll durch den neuen
Standort der New York Film Academy in Abu Dhabi tatkräftig unterstützt
werden. So bietet diese Ausbildungsstätte nun auch im arabischen
Raum eine Plattform für aufstrebende Künstler. Die Erziehung umfasst
die Bereiche Produktion, Schauspielerei und Animation. Die Studenten
er halten Einblicke in alle relevanten Abteilungen der Filmindustrie: sie
erlernen die Kunst des Schreibens, die Tricks des Produzierens und der
Regie führung sowie die der Nachbearbeitungsmöglichkeiten. In offenen

Zur Unterstützung der Studenten werden regelmäßig Größen der
Filmindustrie zu Vorträgen geladen. So berichteten schon Jon voiGht,
Kevin Kline oder dennis hoPPer aus erster Hand über ihre gesammelten
Erfahrungen in der sich schnell wandelnden Film branche. Einen
Namen konnte sich die Akademie auch bei Hollywoodstars wie steven
sPielBerG, Pierce BrosnAn oder luc Besson machen: Die gute
Ausbildungsmöglichkeit veranlasste sie, ihre Kinder an der New York
Academy studieren zu lassen.
Die private Hochschule wird auch in den VAE folgende Programme anbieten:
ein- bis zweijährige Studiengänge, außerdem vier-, sechs- und
achtwöchige Kurse sowie ein zwölfwöchiges Abendmodul für berufstätige
Teilnehmer. Mit dem Standort Abu Dhabi kommt das Emirat seinem Ziel,
Kulturhauptstadt am Golf zu werden, einen Schritt näher. Die Bedeutung
der arabischen Filmindustrie wird allein durch das stetig wachsende Dubai
International Film Festival und das aufstrebende Abu Dhabi Film Festival
sichtbar. Die VAE sehen sich als Dreh- und Angelpunkt zwischen Hollywood

The new york film academy opened its doors in abu dhabi
this past february. This adds the united arab emirates, next
to new york, london, Paris, Milan, and shanghai to the
long line of film academy locations. The academy, founded
in 1992 by Broadway and film producer Jerry sherlock,
distinguishes itself with intensive study programs and
workshops. The institute’s motto is: “learning by doing”; this is
done by combining theory with practical training.
The aspiring film industry in the Gulf Region should receive an
energetic boost from this new college, the New York Film Academy in
Abu Dhabi. This new institute offers a new platform in the Arabian
region for up-and-coming artists. The education offered encompasses
the areas of production, acting and animation. Students gain insights
in all relevant departments of the film industry; they learn the art
of writing, the tricks of production and directing as well as the
subsequent editing and processing possibilities. The themes and topics
are discussed in open forums; much importance is put on development
of the individual student’s creativity and inspiration. Great names of

the film industry are regularly invited to lectures to aid and inspire the
students. Some of the lecturers who have spoken of their experiences
in the ever-changing film industry were: Jon VoiGht, keVin kline and
dennis hoPPer. The academy has also impressed Hollywood stars like
steVen sPielBerG, Pierce Brosnan and luc Besson enough to send
their own children to study at the New York Academy.
The private college will offer the following programs on their UAE
campus: one and two-year study paths, as well as four, six and
eight-week courses and a twelve-week evening module for working
participants. The opening of this institute brings the Emirate of Abu
Dhabi another step closer to becoming the cultural capital of the Gulf.
The importance of the Arabian film industry is evident in the fast
growing Dubai International Film Festival and the aspiring Abu Dhabi
Film Festival. The UAE see themselves as the pivotal center between
