was das textil-technologische, aber
auch was die neueste Alta-Moda-Kollektion
in Mailand oder Paris betrifft. Das ist die
Melange, innerhalb derer ich lebe.
Sie haben einmal gesagt, der Baubereich
sei sehr traditionell und zeichne sich
durch seinen geringen Innovationsfaktor
aus. Was tun Sie, um die technologische
Innovationskraft zu erhöhen?
Man muss sich vorurteilsfrei klarmachen, wo
die technischen Schwachstellen beim Bauen
liegen. Da liegt beispielsweise die Idee nahe,
andere Bauprozesse und Fügungstechniken
einzubringen. Ganz konkret: Warum verlegt
man in einem Einfamilienhaus nicht einen
vorgefertigten Kabelbaum? Warum muss eine
Gruppe von Elektrikern wochenlang Kabel legen,
kürzen und irgendwie versuchen, Ordnung
in das Gewirr zu bringen? Vorfabrikation
liegt hier doch nahe, so dass die Leitungen
nach dem Plug-in-System in einem Tag verlegt
werden können. Wir planen gerade ein
Einfamilienhaus mit einem Kabelbaum. Ähnliches
gilt für Heizung, Lüftung, Sanitär. Es
kann eigentlich nicht sein, dass ein Flaschner
seine halbe Werkstatt auf die Baustelle
bringt und dort Rohre ausmisst, abschneidet,
Gewinde dreht und dann alles miteinander
verlötet und einbaut. Bei dem von mir vorhin
erwähnten Haus wird der gesamte Warmwasser-
und Heizungsbereich vorfabriziert und
anschließend in einem kleinen Metallschrank
auf vier Rädern über die Fundamentplatte in
den Keller gefahren. Für die 20 Leitungen,
die mit einem Flexischlauch angeschlossen
werden müssen, benötigt der Installateur nur
einen Tag. Das ist nicht visionär im Sinne
von Utopia, aber es bringt die Prozesse in die
richtige Richtung.

You once said that the construction
industry is very traditional and
characterised by its low level of
innovation. What are you doing to
increase technological innovation?
You have to realise, in a completely unprejudiced
way, where the technical weaknesses lie in
construction. Introducing other construction
processes and technologies is then an obvious
next step. In practical terms: why isn’t a prefabricated
ring mains installed in residential
homes? Why does a team of electricians have
to spend weeks laying and shortening cable
and trying to bring some semblance of order
into things? Pre-fabrication is the obvious
solution, so that cabling can be installed in
a single day using the plug-in system. We
are now designing a family house complete
with wiring. The same applies to heating,
ventilation and plumbing. It just does not
make sense for a plumber to take half of his
workshop to site, measure out the pipes, cut
them, tap the screw threads, then solder
everything together and install them. For the
house I mentioned earlier, the complete hot
water and heating system is prefabricated and
will be transported in a small metal box on four
wheels over the foundation slab and into the
cellar. The installer needs only one day for the
20 pipes which must be connected with a flexi
tube. That is not visionary in the Utopian sense
of the word, but it sets processes in the right
direction.
