suspect Eskin of being an agent provocateur. This Eskin may<br />

have given you a way to reopen the Rabin murder in court."<br />

I asked Ram if the idea is practical.<br />

"I'd have to look for precedents but, on the surface, it's a<br />

legitimate defense. Ideally, you would want Peres or Carmi<br />

Gillon to sue you, but Eskin may have let you in through the<br />

back door. Now a lot depends on what the judge permits, but<br />

if we went down that road we could subpoena:"<br />

- Avishai Raviv to testify about his provocations.<br />

- Chezi Kalo, head of the Jewish Department of the Shabak<br />

while Raviv was at work.<br />

- Eitan Oren, the TV director who filmed staged provocations.<br />

- Various members of Eyal, including Yigal Amir, who<br />

participated in the provocations.<br />

- Judge Meir Shamgar, who investigated the Shabak's use of<br />

dirty tricks.<br />

Ram continued: "The Shabak's policy is not to reveal the<br />

names of its agents. So it's your word against his whether he<br />

was acting on their behalf. But you have the right to defend<br />

yourself by proving that the Shabak did employ agents to<br />

commit outrages exactly like those of Eskin. And one of<br />

those outrages led to Rabin's murder."<br />

In March, 05, the firebrand rabbi, Shlomo Aviner of<br />

Jerusalem's Meir Institute, until then the most vocal<br />

spokesman in the battle against the Gush Katif surrender,<br />

switched horses. He now advised his followers not to<br />

interfere with soldiers in their duty of evacuating the Jewish<br />

residents from their homes.<br />
