Service Learning Step 4:<br />

Demonstration<br />

Please note that <strong>the</strong> Demonstration can actually<br />

occur as part of <strong>the</strong> Action itself. For example,<br />

students could sell products from <strong>Snow</strong> <strong>Leopard</strong><br />

Enterprises (<strong>the</strong> action) at a “festival” in which<br />

<strong>the</strong>y serve Mongolian food; share poems, skits,<br />

and posters related to <strong>the</strong> snow leopard; and lead<br />

educational activities about <strong>the</strong> snow leopard<br />

and <strong>the</strong> herders who live in Mongolia.<br />

The final part of a complete service learning<br />

project is a demonstration of what students<br />

have learned and accomplished. This can<br />

take many forms. Here are a few ideas:<br />

• Create a student presentation for <strong>the</strong><br />

school community (ei<strong>the</strong>r as a video or a<br />

live assembly). Have students explain <strong>the</strong><br />

project details and outcomes.<br />

• Write an article for a community newspaper<br />

that provides readers with background<br />

information on SLE, project details carried<br />

out by students, and outcomes of <strong>the</strong><br />

project. Include personal reflections from<br />

students, as well as photos from <strong>the</strong> project.<br />

• Compile a book of poems or essays, one<br />

from each student. Have students include<br />

drawings and illustrations with <strong>the</strong>ir submissions.<br />

Compile <strong>the</strong> pages into a single<br />

bound volume that current and future<br />

classes can enjoy.<br />

Be sure to send thank-you notes to any people<br />

or groups that assisted with your project.<br />
