Constant improvement
in tobacco products
The Research and Development
studies carried out by Altadis’ teams
are usually designed for the long and
medium term. In 2004, their focus
was primarily on three objectives:
to reduce the risk factors of tobacco
products, to improve responsiveness
to consumer expectations even
further and to increase the fl exibility
of production facilities.
The Group’s Research teams continued their work on
several programs designed to analyze the properties
of tobacco products.
Upstream, they played an active role in defi ning and
disseminating the good farming practices endorsed
by the Cooperation Center for Scientifi c Research
Relative to Tobacco (CORESTA) in order to limit
residual pesticides in tobacco plants. In 2004, an
experimental platform was set up in Bergerac with
planters, illustrating the very close cooperation
between farming and production professionals
on this question.
The Tobacco Institute in Bergerac, in addition,
continued its work on developing tobacco with
a reduced risk factor using natural selection.
The seeds they obtain are sold throughout the world.
