Induced effects accounted for 18.2% of total effects on average. Investments<br />
caused by the wholesale industry and its supplying industries in the overall economy<br />
accounted for 1,554 million EUR in 2003.<br />

5.2 Generating Employment<br />

In 2003, the activities of the pharmaceutical wholesale industry in Austria, France,<br />
Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the UK and Spain helped to generate 143,638<br />
jobs in these countries. Again, the number of jobs created reflects the size of the<br />
pharmaceutical wholesale industry in the various countries. <strong>The</strong>refore, most jobs<br />
were created in Germany with 39,326 employees, of which 12,952 were directly<br />
employed by pharmaceutical wholesalers, followed by France with 29,757 jobs and<br />
the UK with 23,979 jobs created. All in all, 56,040 people were directly employed<br />
in the pharmaceutical wholesale sector. Further 60,978 jobs were created indirectly<br />
by the industry’s business relations with supplying sectors.<br />
