The low number of pharmaceutical wholesale companies throughout the European
Union indicates a very high level of market consolidation. This makes the industry
an important employer. Whereas other wholesale branches employed between 3
and 19 people per company, one pharmaceutical wholesaler employed 153 humans
in 2002.
