SESSION 5: JULY 9– JULY 13<br />

TENNIS CAMP (7510)<br />

Campers travel by bus to local school tennis courts and receive<br />

instruction from <strong>the</strong> Nor<strong>the</strong>rn <strong>Delaware</strong> Section USTA, learning<br />

basic skills while participating in semi-formal matches and drills.<br />

Racquet and sneakers needed. Campers need water bottle, snack,<br />

and sunscreen daily. For a full day option, add Basketball Camp in<br />

TRACK AND FIELD/CONDITIONING CAMP (7520)<br />

This camp will prepare campers for any sport <strong>the</strong>y wish to pursue<br />

by focusing on improving stamina, strength, speed and agility.<br />

Campers will be able to learn various skills needed to participate<br />

in various track and field events. The drills and skills learned can<br />

be done at home. Campers will also learn life-long healthy eating<br />

habits. Campers are bused to local school tracks. Instruction takes<br />

place from 9:00 to 12:00. In <strong>the</strong> afternoon, campers participate<br />

in traditional day camp activities such as recreational swim,<br />

games, nature walks, and cookout on Friday. Campers need lunch,<br />

water bottle, swim suit, towel, and sun screen daily. For more<br />

JOURNEYS AND STRONG ENOUGH CAMP (7346)<br />

A wellness camp for teens ages 10-14 yrs old; must be 10 yrs old<br />

at <strong>the</strong> start <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> program. Fitness staff will focus on <strong>the</strong> proper<br />

use <strong>of</strong> equipment in <strong>the</strong> Wellness Center. Campers also receive<br />

two hours <strong>of</strong> classroom activities focusing on building self esteem<br />

by learning skills to help deal with emotional and social changes<br />

that occur during <strong>the</strong> early teen years. Campers receive a lanyard at<br />

<strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> camp to continue <strong>the</strong>ir workouts independently in <strong>the</strong><br />

BASKETBALL CAMP (7521)<br />

Camp is designed to develop game skills for campers <strong>of</strong> any age and<br />

ability. Hands-on instruction on footwork, dribbling, passing, and<br />

shooting. Semi-formal games are played. Campers should NOT bring<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir own ball. Campers need sneakers, snack, shorts and a great<br />

attitude. For a full day option, add Tennis Camp in <strong>the</strong> morning.<br />

ARTS AND CRAFTS CAMP (7380)<br />

Create crafts with clay, paint, hemp, gimp and o<strong>the</strong>r campy<br />

materials all week. Monday and Friday, Color Me Mine will lead<br />

campers in ceramics and mosaics. Tuesday through Thursday,<br />

campers will explore paint, sculpting clay, bracelet making and a<br />

self-portrait. Campers need lunch, water bottle, towel, swim suit<br />

NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY<br />

& ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES CAMP (7325)<br />

Do something really different this summer as you learn <strong>the</strong> basic<br />

principles <strong>of</strong> environmental science and nature photography!<br />

Campers will spend time both inside and outside learning about<br />

local ecosystems and photography. Outdoor learning will take place<br />

in natural areas within walking distance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Brandywine Y where<br />

students will gain hands on experience photographing and studying<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir natural surroundings. Indoor time will be spent learning about<br />

natural sciences and watching nature documentaries to better<br />

understand <strong>the</strong> connection between art and nature. Campers need<br />

to bring a camera and sunscreen to camp. For more information,<br />
