Atatürk University<br />

� Atatürk University was established in 1957 and started education in 1958 with<br />
150 students, 10 members of teaching staff in two Faculties namely, College of<br />
Agriculture and Faculty of Letters and Science.<br />
� Atatürk University is the 5th. University of Turkey. Now there are 130<br />
Universities in Turkey. 36 of these Universities are private “foundation”<br />
Universities.<br />
� Several activities were organized to commemorate the 50 th . Anniversary of the<br />
foundation of Atatürk University Throughout the year 2008.<br />
� At its 50th. Year the University is considered to be one of the most important<br />
institution of higher education in Turkey with 35000 students, 2500 members of<br />
teaching staff in 13 Faculties, 14 Vocational Colleges, 6 Graduate Schools, 16<br />
Research Centers, and 2 Research Hospitals.<br />
� The Faculties at the University in order of the date of establishment is as follows:<br />

3. Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences<br />
4. Faculty of Medicine<br />
5. Faculty of Dentistry<br />
6. Faculty of Education<br />
7. Faculty of Engineering<br />
8. Faculty of Theology<br />
9. Faculty of Fine Arts<br />
10. Faculty of Communication and Journalism<br />
11. Faculty of Pharmacy<br />
12. Faculty of Veterinary Sciences<br />
13. Low School<br />
� Atatürk University has the largest experiment farm in Turkey with an area of<br />
more than 30000 decars.<br />
� The University has 1100 housing units on Campus which is the highest number<br />
of such units among the Universities in Turkey.<br />
� More than 1500 members of the teaching staff of Atatürk University have left<br />
the University to work in other Universities. That is why Atatürk University is<br />
called as the “the University establishing Universities”.<br />
� The contribution of the University to the economy of the City of Erzurum is<br />
more than 50 million Dollars per year.
