Agriculture<br />
� Agriculture is the work of growing crops and raising farm animals.<br />
� Agronomy is the work of producing field crops in large and open fields.<br />

� Horticulture is the work of producing fruits and vegetables in protected areas.<br />
� Agricultural extension is a technical service based on an out-of-school educational<br />
system and aimed at improving the living conditions of the people who are<br />
engaged in Agriculture.<br />
� There are eleven Departments in the College of Agriculture at Atatürk University.<br />
They are, in order of the date of establishment, the Departments of:<br />
o Agricultural Economics,<br />
o Animal Husbandry,<br />
o Soil Science,<br />
o Field Crops,<br />
o Agricultural Engineering,<br />
o Agricultural Mechanization,<br />
o Horticulture,<br />
o Plant Protection,<br />
o Food Technology,<br />
o Aquaculture and<br />
o Landscape Architecture.<br />
� Photosynthesis is a process by which chlorophyll containing cells in green plants<br />
synthesize carbohydrates from carbodioxide and water in the presence of sun light.<br />
In other words, it is a process by which plants make sugar from water and air.<br />
� Erosion occurs on sloping surfaces rather than level areas.<br />
� Some bacteria are beneficial, but some are harmful, causing various diseases.<br />
� A plow is an implement to till or turn over the soil.<br />
� A roller is used to break up the clods and compact the seed bed.<br />
� In general, tillage serves three purposes. It prepares the seed bed, destroys the<br />
weeds, and improves the soil.<br />
� Rotation is a practice of growing different crops at different times on the same soil.<br />
� A tractor can draw a two or more furrow plow.
