faculty 2003 Autodesk applauds this year’s faculty members—dozens of dedicated instructors, authors, and business professionals who present the classes, labs, and sessions that represent the very heart of Autodesk University. These seasoned professionals educate and inform us and help us advance the state of the art in our industries. Jeanne Aarhus Jeanne has been working with CAD in mapping and AEC since the early 1980s. She has experience in many CAD-related fields including production drawing, coordination, end-user support, programming, and training for PC- and UNIX-based CAD applications. She has conducted seminars and workshops on CAD productivity for managers and users in both corporate and college settings, as well as for many user groups. Jeanne is known for her real-world approach to learning. Dan Abbott Dan Abbott has been involved with technical education for more than 20 years, the past 14 of which have been as a member of the Technical Graphics Department at Southern Maine Technical College. Dan trains industry professionals in AutoCAD ® use and management, and in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. He has been a member of the Autodesk exam board and continues to work with Knowledge Development Solutions to create technical exams for Autodesk and other companies. He earned M.S. and B.S. degrees in Industrial Technology from the University of Southern Maine, and a B.A. degree in Psychology from Swarthmore College. Reid Addis Reid, formerly of Addis Computer Consultants, is currently responsible for supporting 60 users of Autodesk ® Architectural Desktop and 3D Studio VIZ ® at Granary Associates in Philadelphia. Previously, Reid managed a CAD consulting firm for architects and engineers for 13 years. Gregory Alevras Gregory has been with ARCHIBUS, Inc. for 12 years, the last 6 of which as manager of business development. He works with partners and clients to implement Computer-Integrated Facility Management (CIFM) systems. Before joining ARCHIBUS, he worked as a facilities manager for almost 10 years in facilities planning and layout of manufacturing and research space, with responsibility for managing capital and expense budgets for renovation and new construction. Joan Allen, P.E. Joan is senior product manager of Autodesk ® Buzzsaw ® .She has more than 13 years of experience in construction project management in both public works and private construction. Prior to joining buzzsaw.com in 1999, Joan was a construction manager for the East Bay Municipal Utility District’s seismic improvement program. She previously worked as senior project manager for Dynamic Isolation Systems, a designer and manufacturer of earthquake isolators for buildings and bridges. Prior to that, she served as a construction engineer/project manager for Pacific Gas & Electric. Joan is a registered civil engineer, and holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. Lynn Allen Lynn is the Technical Evangelist for Autodesk. She has contributed to CADENCE magazine for the past 10 years. Her “Circles and Lines” column was the most frequently read section of the magazine. Lynn is also the author of two books, the latest being AutoCAD ® 2002 Inside and Out. She has taught at the college and corporate level for 14 years. Lynn’s unique combination of technical knowledge, quick wit, and personable style make her much sought-after as a public speaker. Emlyn Altman Emlyn is well known for her expertise in computeraided lighting design and 3D visualization. She presented workshops at two Lightfair International conferences, and spoke at local Illuminating Engineering Society chapter meetings in Philadelphia, Washington DC, Milwaukee, and Baltimore. One of the first recipients of an Autodesk iDesign Worldwide Award, her work has been seen in publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, Display & Design Ideas, Landscape Architecture, Washington Flyer Magazine & Travel Guide and the 2003 TV documentary Silver Spring: Story of an American Suburb. David Ashcroft, P.E. David is a registered engineer practicing in the State of California. He owns and operates Engineering Consulting Group, a small firm located in Solana Beach, California that provides civil, structural engineering, and consulting services. David has been a registered Autodesk ® AEC Consultant with authorization for civil/survey, structural, and imaging. He has 18 years of experience in the design and project management of public works and private-sector projects such as water transmission and distribution facilities, water storage reservoirs, dams, weirs, large and small diameter sewerage collection facilities, and pump stations. Paul F. Aubin, Associate AIA Paul is the author of Mastering Autodesk ® Architectural Desktop, and Autodesk ® Architectural Desktop: an Advanced Implementation Guide,both published by Autodesk ® Press. He is an associate with Consulting for Architects, Inc. (CFA). He serves as the moderator for CADENCE magazine’s online “CAD Questions Forum” and has spoken at AU for the past 3 years. Paul is also an Autodesk ® Certified Instructor (ACI), and an associate member of AIA. The combination of his experiences in architectural practice, as a CAD manager, and an instructor gives his writing and instruction a fresh and credible focus. James Balding, AIA Jim is a licensed architect with 15-plus years of experience <strong>integr</strong>ating technology into the architectural field. He is currently employed with Wimberly, Allison, Tong & Goo (WATG) in Newport Beach. He has been a member of the Autodesk ® Revit ® Client Advisory board since its inaugural meeting and is currently serving as the Revit Product Chair for AUGI ® .He has developed a successful Autodesk Revit implementation strategy and has spent the past year bringing the seven offices of WATG up to speed in its use. faculty 33 faculty
