Program 1
4
The BALANCE module provides a unique interplay of sound and gentle vibration, which,
as a recent scientific study demonstrated, leads to deep relaxation and an absolute sense
of well-being.
Body
• Provides deep relaxation within a few minutes
• Exercises a positive influence on the person as a whole
• Heightens awareness of one’s own body
and leads to a positive body image
mind
• Dissipates stress and gives renewed energy
• Causes distracting thoughts to fade
• Enhances concentration
spirit
• Causes emotional tension to fade
and allows inner peace to take its place
• Enhances mental performance
The IONTO BALANCE WELLNESS BED comes with four separate programs with different
vibrational frequencies and types of music. As a result, the effects of the programs differ,
allowing you to respond individually to the needs of your clients.
Although pieces of music are already stored for each individual program, you also have
the option of saving your own music. See operating manual for more information on this
topic.
effects:
• Has a positive impact on the whole person
• Relieves muscular tension
• Promotes circulation
• Normalizes pulse and breathing rates
• Reduces stress
When importing your own music, we recommend music that is specially designed for re-
laxation, that contains no vocal component and that creates a calm, balanced atmosphere.
Adjust the program running time to match the duration of your treatments.
maximum program time = 120 minutes.
effects:
Wave-like motions that radiate outwards from your clients’ heads to their feet will have a
balancing effect on the whole person.
• Reduces stress
• Promotes circulation
• Normalizes pulse and breathing rates
• Relieves muscular tension
• Supports the ability to concentrate
• Improves body awareness
If importing your own music, we recommend music that contains ocean sounds, as these
will support the wave-like vibrations of the program. The calming sounds of the sea lead to
absolute relaxation and a feeling of natural security.
Adjust the program running time to match the duration of your treatments.
maximum program time = 120 minutes.
effects:
• This program can even help calm tense, hyperactive people
• Has a positive impact on brain waves
• Creates harmony between the body and mind
• Body and mind find deep relaxation
• A long-lasting state of relaxation and positive attitude sets in
— an ideal basis for optimizing one’s work performance
If importing your own music, we recommend harmonious, slow-moving
instrumental music.
Program run time = 10 minutes.
3. how do I integrate
the positive effects of the
BalaNce module into
my treatments?
6
The positive effects of the BALANCE module help you intensify and supplement your professional
treatments and can be integrated equally well into cosmetic and wellness treatments
and into your own unique treatment concepts.
We recommend using the BALANCE module as follows:
Timing Target group or treatment goal which program
Beginning of treatment
• To mentally prepare clients
for treatment
• After cleansing
during steam treatment
during treatment
• For facial massage
• For tense, stressed clients Program 3,
You can integrate the BALANCE module into your treatments or use it as a stand-alone
application. The BALANCE module can be combined with cosmetic treatments or with
wellness applications. A few sample BALANCE treatment concepts are provided in the
following pages.
BALANCE treatment concepts are as unique as your clients and can meet the needs of
everyone from a stressed-out manager to a beauty-conscious client — anyone who needs to
relax in the shortest possible amount of time.
To help you sell your BALANCE treatment concepts at your business, we also include a
marketing package consisting of the following:
A wall poster for advertising and decoration at your business
A flyer with an acrylic stand for display in your place of business to inform your clients of
your BALANCE treatments.
8 dIN a4 Posters with an acrylic countertop display, each presenting one BALANCE
treatment concept. This display feature lets you present rotating offers and/or sales promotions.
Post cards that you can send to your clients. This allows you to inform clients of your newest
service and also speaks to clients who maybe have not been in your studio for a long time,
giving them a new reason to visit.
e-mail templates that you can use to inform your clients of your new service.
sampler gift certificate for word-of-mouth advertising — the best way to win new
customers! Give your customers sampler gift certificates for their friends and acquaintances.
Each time a friend redeems a gift certificate and/or becomes a new cus-tomer, you can
give the original customer a discount of, for instance, 10% on their next treatment, which
will motivate them to give away more gift certificates. You can also give customers gift certificates
as an incentive to familiarize themselves with these new treatments.
ad template for advertising in local newspapers.
Image data so that you can advertise your new service on your website, too.
Preparing treatment
What do you need for the
treatment?
welcome phase:
First impressions count
The effects of different colors
10
• Cover the IONTO BALANCE WELLNESS BED with an oil-resistant fitted sheet
• Switch on heat for the seat
• Provide approx. 2 hand towels, 1 blanket, a robe, disposable slippers and disposable
undergarments
• Prepare tea
• Warm compresses in HOT CABINET (welcome towel)
• Warm up the hot stones if necessary (optimum: 2 small stones for the face,
2 medium stones for the hands, 1 large stone for the belly); provide chakra quartz stones
if desired
• Heat the base oil (jojoba oil or almond oil) in the warmer and prepare 2-3 different
essential oils
• Prepare the foot bath (wooden bowl, rose petals)
• Prepare the DE LUXE/COMFORT COLORED LIGHT LAMP or colored light emitter
You will find the following items in our cosmetic technology catalog: Fitted sheet for treatment bed, de luXe
or cOmFOrT cOlOred lIGhT lamP
You will find the following items in our care&more catalog: Bath robe, disposable slippers, disposable undergarments,
hand towels, compresses, terry-cloth blanket, hot stones, hot stones warmer, chakra quartz
stones, hOT caBINeT, foot bath, rose petals, tea cups. a selection of different essential oils, base oils and
tea
Receive customers with a welcome towel 1 and offer them some tea 2 . While enjoying the
tea ceremony 3 together, briefly present the treatment and ask your client how he or she is
feeling. Ask about color preferences and, if she has none, select a color that suits her mood.
For example: Select a calming light for a nervous customer or choose a color according to
the appropriate fragrance (see following overview).
length of welcoming phase, approx. 5 -10 min.
1 Welcome towel = a warm compress towel; an Asian greeting ritual. Besides being refreshing and cleaning
the hands, the warm, moist towel also stimulates the senses and helps your client leave her day behind her.
2 Tea = select, for instance, an ayurveda tea from our care&more product line. You may, of course, offer another
beverage if your client does not want any tea.
3 Tea ceremony = sitting together for the tea ceremony promotes trust between practitioner and client, and ensures
that your client will feel welcome.
Red has a stimulating effect, promotes circulation and activates metabolism. Applications:
Skin that is dry, sallow or in need of regeneration. Rosemary essential oil enhances the
effect.
Orange relaxes, brightens the client’s mood, activates the flow of lymph, tones the skin.
Applications: Cellulite, impure skin. Orange essential oil enhances the effect.
Yellow Yellow promotes glandular function, stimulates the psyche, strengthens the protective
system of the skin. Applications: Combination skin, irritated skin. Grapefruit essential
oil enhances the effect.
Green calms and regenerates. Applications: Atrophic skin if alternated with orange; normal
skin. Rosewood essential oil enhances the effect.
Blue inhibits circulation, diminishes skin reactions and has a calming effect. Applications:
Sensitive, impure or couperose skin. Lavender essential oil enhances the effect.
Violet reduces the production of skin oil and has a relaxing effect. Applications: Oily skin,
acne. Lavender essential oil enhances the effect.
Magenta harmonizes and balances metabolism in the skin. Applications: Irritated skin.
Linden blossom essential oil enhances the effect.
Turquoise stimulates the immune function of the skin. Applications: Dry skin. Tangerine
essential oil enhances the effect.
Accompany your client into the treatment room,1 where she can undress and slip into the
robe, disposable undergarments and disposable slippers. Invite your client to have a seat
in a chair or on the treatment bed for a foot bath.2 Aromatherapy3 is part of the foot bath;
clients can simply close their eyes and inhale the fragrance of their choice.
While your client is enjoying the fragrance (please do not hold the bottle of essential oil
too close to anyone’s nose), gently place your hand on her head and rest your thumb on
her “third eye,”4 allowing her to focus on her sense of smell. You can then add the selected
fragrance/essential oil to the basic oil (ex.: jojoba oil). Thoroughly dry your client’s feet and
ask her to remove her robe and lie on her back. Completely cover her body with a terry
cloth blanket and cover her chest and cleavage area with a hand towel.
Please keep in mind that some people are embarrassed about undressing. During
treatment, leave only those parts of the body uncovered that you are immediately treating;
always cover the rest of the body with blankets or towels. Body temperature also lowers
over the course of treatment, and your client could become very cold if left uncovered.
length of preparation phase, approx. 10 min.
1 Light in the selected color should already be turned on in the treatment room. The room temperature should
not be too cool; the heat for the IONTO BALANCE WELLNESS BED seat should already be activated.
2 Foot bath = prepare a small amount of water with rose petals in a bowl. This will be poured over the client’s feet
at a later point in the treatment and followed by a course of warm water.
3 Aromatherapy = keep the base oil ready in the oil warmer and add to this a few drops of the essential oil
selected (approx. 4 - 7 drops per 100 mL). Do not have your client smell more than 2-3 aromas. You will
find a wide selection of oils in our care&more product line. Keep the massage oil warm and handy
throughout the entire treatment.
4 Third eye = the area between the eyebrows at the root of the nose.
manual operation
Treatment programs
12
Use the remote control to move the bed into a horizontal position. Raise the seat angle
slightly and lower the footrest to a minimal degree. Manually raise the headrest somewhat
if necessary. The height of the treatment bed should be adjusted to where you can work
comfortably while standing.
The client is lying on the bed on her back with a hand towel covering her chest and
cleavage area and a blanket keeping her body warm.
Use the manual control to select between treatment programs ➎ (No. 1 or No. 2); the
following BALANCE program is specially geared for these programs.
➎ Luxury programs 1 to 4
The program starts at the ideal intensity and should only be raised if necessary. Clients
should only just barely be able to detect the vibrations, which should perhaps be lowered
if this is not the case. The music volume ➊ should always be set to a level that is pleasant
for the customer.
Program 1
Song: “Meditation” from the “Meditation” CD
Length: 120 min.
Program 2
Song: “Listen to dreamy sounds” from the “Healing Power of Water” (“Die Heilkraft des
Wassers”) CD
Length: 120 min.
General considerations:
• Thoroughly cover all areas not receiving treatment.
• Use long, rhythmic, gentle and slow massage strokes; if this is difficult for you, adapt
your strokes to the calm, relaxed rhythm of the music.
• When massaging large areas of the body, you may find it helpful to use your forearms
in addition to your hands.
• Distribute generous amounts of prewarmed oil on your hands and forearms before
massaging each part of the body.
• Repeat each massage stroke 3-5 times.
Place one prewarmed, medium-sized hot stone in the client’s right hand and one in the left;
have the client position her hands with the palms open and facing upwards. Place the large
hot stone on her abdomen below the navel. If the stone is too hot (as determined by the
client), place the stone on the blanket.
Stand to the right of your client. Place your
left hand on her forehead and your right
hand below the navel. Notice your client’s
breathing and become one with it.
Begin your massage stroke in the center of the cleavage area, moving outward toward the
shoulders with both hands.
Perform the stroke as one long, continuous, calm, fluid motion.

Back stretcher
arm treatment
16
Your hands and forearms must be thoroughly covered with oil when performing
this stroke.
Place your hands to the right and left of the back of the neck and allow them to glide down
the back along either side of the spinal column. Slowly draw your fingers back towards the
neck, applying gentle pressure. Ask your client to inhale and exhale deeply.
Remove the hot stones from your client’s hands.
Using both hands, perform lifting, circular motions on the right arm beginning with the wrist
and proceeding to the shoulder.
Stroke downwards from the shoulder toward the wrist.
Grasping your client’s right arm between your fingers and thumb, apply a small amount
of pressure and stroke outwards slightly. Release the pressure somewhat and move toward
the shoulder in semi-circular motions. Repeat this motion until you reach the shoulder and
then return to the wrist.
Place your customer’s right arm on the bed
over her head. Make certain that her arm is
relaxed and free of tension as it lies over her
head.
Make sure your hands and forearms are thoroughly covered with oil. Stand to the right of
your client. Bend down on your knees to make this stroke easier to perform. Gently place
your left hand under the client at the level of her sternum. Place your right hand at the level
of her navel. Perform large and small, counterclockwise circular motions with both hands.
Place both hands under your client’s back at about the level of the pelvic bones. Keeping
your hands flat, slide them upwards until you reach the lower tip of the shoulder blade.
Next perform a stroke along the side of the back until you reach the upper arm.
Massage the arm with circular motions all the way to the tips of the fingers. Gently stroke
the palm with your forearm. Place your client’s arm back underneath the blanket.
of her navel. Perform large and small, counterclockwise
circular motions with both hands.
Use both hands to perform a stroke from the sternum to the waist along the side of the
abdomen.
Thoroughly cover your client’s upper body.
Using both hands, perform circular motions from the ankles to the groin. Next perform an
effleurage on the leg from the groin to the ankle.
Grasp your client’s leg between your fingers and thumb. Apply slight pressure and pull
outwards. Release the pressure and move upwards in semi-circular motions. Repeat this
motion as often as necessary until you reach the groin, and then return with a gentle stroking
motion.
Begin at the heel with both hands and perform circular motions, moving upwards along the
calf toward the back of the knee. Gently return along the shin bone.
Now turn to your client’s left side and perform the same massage strokes on
the left leg. Repeat the same strokes on the left arm as shown on page 16 (arm
treatment).
Place your customer’s right
Begin your massage stroke in the center of the cleavage area, moving outward to the
shoulders with both hands.
Now place your hands on the right and left ribs, stroking over the abdomen and down to
the feet. Apply your hands in such a way that you include the hips.
It is important that clients rest for at least 10 min. after the treatment. Switch on the selected
color of light, thoroughly cover your client and allow her to rest.
After the rest phase, gently awaken your client by briefly laying one hand on her forehead
and the other on the back of her neck. Next, use hand towels to wipe off excess oil from
the client’s body. Give your client her bathrobe and leave her alone to dress. After the
treatment has ended, offer your client a refreshing tea.
You may, of course, perform the massage with herbal stamps or chakra quartz
stones if you prefer. This treatment routine is especially well suited for synchronous
massage.
Treatment time: 60-90 minutes
Treatment price: 80-120 €
A study conducted at the German Center for Music Therapy Research in Heidelberg produced
sensational relaxation results with the IONTO BALANCE WELLNESS BED. The effects
of gentle vibration and music were studied on student volunteers under the direction
of Professor Bolay. Biofeedback measurements 1 were used to represent a variety of physiological
parameters. The state of relaxation is especially well described by skin conductivity 2 ,
breathing rate and pulse frequency. Study participants were systematically asked how they
felt as the measurements were being taken.
1 Biofeedback
The term biofeedback refers to a method that utilizes technological tools such as electrodes and computers
to visualize changes in the status of biological processes (e.g., pulse, breathing rate) that cannot be detected
directly with the senses.
2 Skin conductivity
Skin conductivity refers to the ability of the skin to conduct electricity and is the opposite of skin resistance.
Skin conductivity is primarily affected by the activity of the sweat glands: when the body perspires, the capacity
of the skin to function as an electrical conductor increases, as does the value for skin conductivity.
The IONTO BALANCE WELLNESS BED guarantees deep relaxation, as evidenced by a
three-fold increase in skin conductivity.
extremely rapid relaxation
Relaxation is very fast with the Balance WELLNESS BED from IONTO: the data show that
a state of deep relaxation is possible within just 7 minutes, allowing even stressed clients
to regain their balance quickly on their lunch break, for instance, or after a long, strenuous
day at work.
extremely balanced, pleasant relaxation
Pulse and breathing rate both swing back and forth during the relaxation phase until they
reach a stable level. As a result, clients perceive deep relaxation to be especially pleasant.
Circulation remains unaffected. Relaxation takes place so uniformly that the client is not
sidetracked, for example, by distracting thoughts.
data and personal experience coincide.
The state of deep relaxation induced by the IONTO BALANCE WELLNESS BED is evidenced
by more than just the data — evaluations of participant questionnaires showed that
emotional agitation was reduced by up to 70 percent. In other words, the data and the
personal experience of study participants were in absolute agreement.
You should not perform BALANCE treatments on anyone with a heart condition or pacemaker.
When in doubt, always consult a physician.
