6.5.6. Sensor Test<br />

This test checks <strong>for</strong> null sensor offsets <strong>for</strong> a level, motionless system. The checks have a fairly wide<br />

pass/fail criteria, but c<strong>an</strong> still fail if pedestal is in motion or out of level more th<strong>an</strong> a few degrees.<br />

“Test Sensor Bias” will be displayed as the test runs. An Error code 6.01-6.05 will be displayed if one of<br />

these tests fails. If <strong>an</strong>y test fails, replace the PCU <strong>an</strong>d re-run BIT tests.<br />

6.5.7. AZ move/ Rate sensor test<br />

This test comm<strong>an</strong>ds moves the dish at various speeds in Azimuth <strong>an</strong>d checks the results using the AZ<br />

rate sensor.<br />

“Test AZ Sensor” will be displayed as the test runs. An Error code 7.01-7.05 will be displayed if one of<br />

these tests fails. An error indicates a motor drive rate or sensor failure. This could be due to:<br />

• Mech<strong>an</strong>ical binding of the pedestal or AZ Bearing. With Power OFF, visually inspect the <strong>an</strong>tenna <strong>an</strong>d<br />

radome (inside of base <strong>an</strong>d top) <strong>for</strong> drag against the radome or binding/fouling of pedestal in the<br />

<strong>an</strong>tenna cables or against the cable connector bracket. Rotate the <strong>an</strong>tenna in Azimuth with your<br />

h<strong>an</strong>d/finger to feel <strong>for</strong> <strong>an</strong>y binding in azimuth rotation. Re-route cables <strong>an</strong>d/or bend connector<br />

bracket to remove fouling with the pedestal. If the pedestal is dragging inside the radome itself or if<br />

the AZ Bearing has failed, the radome <strong>an</strong>d/or pedestal will have to be replaced. If this check found a<br />

problem, <strong>an</strong>d you have corrected it, re-run the BIT tests.<br />

• AZ Belt dragging, or slipping. Inspect AZ Drive Belt <strong>for</strong> chaffing or wear (leaves black dust). Inspect<br />

AZ Drive Belt proper tension (belt should be taut when pinched in on both sides of the AZ Motor Drive<br />

Sprocket – it should NOT flex more th<strong>an</strong> 1/16th inch on both sides when pinched). Re-align <strong>an</strong>d<br />

tension the motor <strong>for</strong> correct belt path <strong>an</strong>d tension. If this check found a problem, <strong>an</strong>d you have<br />

corrected it, re-run the BIT tests.<br />

• AZ Motor failure. Replace the AZ motor <strong>an</strong>d re-run the BIT tests.<br />

• AZ Drive or AZ Rate Sensor Failure. Replace the PCU <strong>an</strong>d re-run the BIT tests.<br />

6.5.8. Pol Pot/Motor move test<br />

This test comm<strong>an</strong>ds moves the feed assembly at various speeds in Polarization <strong>an</strong>d checks the results<br />

using the POL potentiometer.<br />

“Test POL Assy” will be displayed as the test runs. An Error code 8.01-8.07 will be displayed if one of<br />

these tests fails.<br />

A failure indicates a failed motor, belt or potentiometer. This could be due to:<br />

• Mech<strong>an</strong>ical binding of the polarization assembly. With Power OFF, visually inspect the polarization<br />

assembly (including LNB <strong>an</strong>d cables) <strong>for</strong> drag against the pedestal or dish. Rotate the polarization<br />

assembly with your finger to feel <strong>for</strong> <strong>an</strong>y binding in rotation. Re-route cables to remove fouling with<br />

the pedestal. If binding is felt, remove motor belt <strong>an</strong>d re-check binding. If the polarization assembly<br />

is still binding (indicating bearing failure), it must be replaced. If this check found a problem, <strong>an</strong>d you<br />

have corrected it, re-run the BIT tests.<br />

• POL Drive Belt or POL Pot Drive Belt dragging, or slipping. Inspect drive belts <strong>for</strong> chaffing or wear<br />

(leaves black dust). Inspect drive belts proper tension (belts should be semi-taut when pinched in on<br />

both sides of the Motor Drive Sprocket or Pot Drive Sprocket – the belts should NOT flex more th<strong>an</strong><br />

1/16th inch on both sides when pinched). Re-align <strong>an</strong>d tension the motor & pot <strong>for</strong> correct belt path<br />

<strong>an</strong>d tension. If this check found a problem, <strong>an</strong>d you have corrected it, re-run the BIT tests.<br />

• Rotate the polarization assembly to center of it’s mech<strong>an</strong>ical r<strong>an</strong>ge (LNB near vertical) <strong>an</strong>d observe<br />

while BIT test runs. If the POL Motor does NOT drive during the test. Replace the POL motor <strong>an</strong>d<br />

re-run the BIT tests.<br />

• POL Potentiometer (Pot) mounting out of position or failed. Rotate the polarization assembly to<br />
