In the short term both MFMR and the mining<br />

lease operator should establish appropriate<br />

monitoring line(s) through the Mining Licence<br />

Area to monitor the effects of dredging on a realtime<br />

basis (possibly coinciding with established<br />

surveys).<br />

Given the number of industrial mineral EPLs that<br />

have been granted in the area between Walvis<br />

Bay and Lüderitz consideration should be given to<br />

requesting that the Benguela Current Commission<br />

incorporate into their Strategic <strong>Enviro</strong>nmental<br />

Assessment of the mineral sector of the Benguela<br />

an ecosystem study of the potential impacts of<br />

dredging.<br />
