To Phoebus pray'd, and Phoebus<br />

heard the prayer:<br />

A dreadful plague ensues: the avenging<br />

darts<br />

Incessant fly, and pierce the Grecian<br />

hearts.<br />

A prophet then, inspired by heaven,<br />

And points the crime, and thence<br />

chiefs incline<br />
