Pimelea (f)<br />

Pimelea (f) is an endemic prostrate plant known only from Northland.<br />

It is recorded from Maunganui Bluff O07/009 in this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong><br />

where it is uncommon (L. J. Forester pers. comm.).<br />

<strong>3.</strong><strong>3.</strong>6 Regionally significant plant species<br />

The following species are uncommon species in Northland regarded by the<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Conservation, Northland Conservancy as being regionally<br />

significant species.<br />

Anaphalioides trinervis (incl. A. keriense)<br />

Anaphalioides trinervis is a small grey-green cudweed which grows on<br />

open banks <strong>of</strong> large rivers (L. J. Forester pers. comm.). Recorded from<br />

Marlborough P06/042 (SSBI P06/H040), Waipoua (SSBI O06/H015) and<br />

Mataraua Forests (SSBI O06/H013) both part <strong>of</strong> O06/001 in this <strong>Ecological</strong><br />

<strong>District</strong>.<br />

Ascarina lucida hutu<br />

Hutu is a small tree which occurs largely at high altitudes on the western<br />

side <strong>of</strong> Northland where it is <strong>of</strong> local distribution (L. J. Forester pers.<br />

comm.). Recorded from Kaihu Forest P07/001 (SSBI P07/H001), Waipoua<br />

(SSBI O06/H015), Mataraua (SSBI O06/H013) and Waima Forests (SSBI<br />

O06/H010) all O06/001.<br />

Astelia nervosa<br />

Astelia nervosa is a tufted plant found in high altitude habitats in<br />

Northland. Recorded from Waipoua (SSBI O06/H015), Mataraua (SSBI<br />

O06/H013) and Waima Forests (SSBI O06/H010) all O06/001, Marlborough<br />

P06/042 (SSBI P06/H040) and Kaihu Forests P07/001 (P07/H001) in this<br />

<strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong>.<br />

Australina pusilla<br />

Australina pusilla is a creeping groundcover plant that forms mats (Allan<br />

1961) and is usually associated with rich soils (L. J. Forester pers. comm.).<br />

Recorded in this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong> from Waima Forest part <strong>of</strong> O06/001<br />

(AK 174892) and Maunganui Bluff O07/009 (Esler and Dobbins 1977).<br />

Azolla filiculoides Pacific azolla or red azolla<br />

Pacific azolla is a free floating fern with leaves that <strong>of</strong>ten turn red.<br />

Recorded in this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong> from a pond in the Waipoua Forest,<br />

part <strong>of</strong> O06/001 (SSBI O06/H015).<br />

Blechnum colensoi<br />

Blechnum colensoi is a New Zealand endemic fern found in wet lowland<br />

to montane forest (Brownsey and Smith-Dodsworth 2000). Recorded from<br />

Kaihu P07/001 (SSBI P07/H001) and Waima Forests, part <strong>of</strong> O06/001 (SSBI<br />

O06/H010) where it also reaches its northern limit.<br />
