loxsoma cunninghamii<br />

Loxsoma cunninghamii is an uncommon fern found in the North Island<br />

in lowland <strong>areas</strong> from Kaitaia to East Cape. It is a New Zealand endemic<br />

genus represented by one species (Brownsey and Smith-Dodsworth 2000).<br />

In this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong> it is recorded from Waipoua, part <strong>of</strong> O06/001<br />

(SSBI O06/H015) and Marlborough Forests P06/042 (SSBI P06/H040).<br />

luzula picta var. picta<br />

Luzula picta var. picta is an endemic grassy tufted plant which is<br />

uncommon in Northland, recorded in this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong> from<br />

Waipoua Forest, part <strong>of</strong> O06/001 (SSBI O06/H015).<br />

lycopodium scariosum creeping clubmoss<br />

Creeping clubmoss is an indigenous clubmoss found throughout New<br />

Zealand but is rare in Northland (Brownsey and Smith-Dodsworth 2000).<br />

In this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong> it was recorded from a road escarpment near<br />

Marlborough Forest (P06/042) in 1984 (AK 166098).<br />

Manoao colensoi silver pine<br />

Silver pine is a tree <strong>of</strong> uncommon distribution in Northland, recorded<br />

from Waipoua Forest, part <strong>of</strong> O06/001 (SSBI O06/H015) in this <strong>Ecological</strong><br />

<strong>District</strong>.<br />

Metrosideros carminea<br />

Metrosideros carminea is a tall rata vine with bright carmine flowers,<br />

recorded from several sites in this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong> including Maunganui<br />

Bluff (O07/009) (Esler and Dobbins 1977), Waipoua (NZFRI 3496) (SSBI<br />

O06/H015), Mataraua (SSBI O06/H013) and Waima Forests (SSBI O06/<br />

H010) all O06/001, Marlborough Forests P06/042 (SSBI P06/H040).<br />

Metrosideros excelsa × M. robusta<br />

Metrosideros excelsa × M. robusta is a pohutukawa-rata cross found in<br />

this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong> at Katui Scenic Reserve and Surrounds O07/001,<br />

Waipoua, part <strong>of</strong> O06/001 (SSBI O06/H015), and Te Kaiatewhetu<br />

Shrublands and Arai te Uru Coastal Strip O06/015 (1995 PNAP survey),<br />

elsewhere in Northland recorded occasionally on the east coast (L. J.<br />

Forester pers. comm.).<br />

Metrosideros colensoi<br />

Metrosideros colensoi is an endemic climbing shrub generally found in<br />

high altitude forests in Northland, recorded in this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong><br />

from Mataraua Forest, part <strong>of</strong> O06/001 (SSBI O06/H013), Trounson Kauri<br />

Park Scenic Reserve O07/005 (SSBI O07/H002) and Kaihu Forest P07/001<br />

recorded by Peter Anderson in 1999.<br />

Metrosideros umbellata southern rata<br />

Southern rata is a shrub or small tree <strong>of</strong> local distribution at higher<br />

altitudes in Northland, recorded from Kaihu P07/001 (SSBI P07/H001),<br />

Waipoua (SSBI O06/H015), Mataraua (SSBI O06/H013) and Waima Forests<br />

(SSBI O06/H010) all O06/001 in this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong>.<br />
