Phyllocladus toatoa toatoa<br />

Toatoa is a tree <strong>of</strong> rare occurrence in Northland, recorded in this<br />

<strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong> from Waipoua part <strong>of</strong> O06/001 (SSBI O06/H015) and<br />

Kaihu Forests P07/001 (SSBI P07/H001).<br />

Pratia angulata 8<br />

A creeping herb, Pratia angulata is recorded from Waipoua (SSBI O06/<br />

H015), Mataraua (SSBI O06/H013), Waima Forests (SSBI O06/H010) all<br />

O06/001 and Lake Waingata North in 1986 O06/036 (SSBI O06/028) in<br />

this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong>.<br />

Psilotum nudum<br />

Psilotum nudum is a small stalky fern ally that is widespread but sparse<br />

and is generally found in sunbaked open shrubland habitats. Recorded<br />

in this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong> from Hokianga South Head (O06/015), a year<br />

2000 record (E. Cameron pers. comm.). Only a handful <strong>of</strong> specimens<br />

have been recorded elsewhere in Northland. Interestingly this plant has<br />

been found growing in several Auckland bark gardens (E. Cameron pers.<br />

comm. 2003) and has recently been found in rock gardens in Whangarei<br />

and on the Tutukaka coast (L. J. Forester pers. comm. 2005).<br />

Psuedowintera axillaris horopito<br />

Horopito is a small tree usually restricted to high altitudes in Northland,<br />

recorded from Waipoua (SSBI O06/H015) and Waima Forests (SSBI O06/<br />

H010), both part <strong>of</strong> O06/001, Marlbourgh P06/040 (SSBI P06/H040) and<br />

Kaihu Forests P07/001 (SSBI P07/H001) also Trounson Kauri Park Scenic<br />

Reserve O07/005 (SSBI O07/H002) in this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong>.<br />

Psuedowintera colorata mountain horopito<br />

Mountain horopito is a small tree with distinctive blotchy red peppery<br />

leaves occurring from the <strong>Tutamoe</strong> Range south to Stewart Island (Poole<br />

and Adams 1994). Recorded in this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong> from Waipoua (SSBI<br />

O06/H015) and Waima Forests (SSBI O06/H010), both part <strong>of</strong> O06/001,<br />

in this <strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong> and Kaihu Forest P07/001 (AK 205862).<br />

ranunculus urvilleanus<br />

Ranunculus urvilleanus is an endemic buttercup found in swampy, wet<br />

places. It is now uncommon in Northland with only one record in this<br />

<strong>Ecological</strong> <strong>District</strong> from Waipoua Forest, part <strong>of</strong> O06/001 (SSBI O06/<br />

H015).<br />

8 This record is derived from a plant list <strong>of</strong> an area (now Nga Whenua Rahui – Te Mahurehure<br />

Roopu Whenua Toanga) which lies between the forests <strong>of</strong> Waima and Mataraua.<br />
