TUESDAY ‘D’ WORKSHOPS continued
D5 Families and the Revolving Door:
Collaborating with Criminal Justice to
Adopt Trauma- and Family-Focused
Interventions
Room: Milano 3
An estimated 1.7 million children had a parent in state
prison in 2007, a number that has skyrocketed over the
past 20 years. The majority of these parents have a mental
illness or substance use disorder and many have high
rates of trauma. Family-focused interventions that address
behavioral health and trauma are integral to promoting
recovery for justice-involved clients and ensuring
recidivism reduction strategies succeed. Hear directly
from several effective programs that work with parents
and families involved in the justice system.
You Could Be Fooling Yourself
Room: Roman I
The DLA-20 functional assessment tool could help you
identify specific improvements in your clients’ daily living
activities. With implementation of the Affordable Care Act,
it’s the right time to measure process and progress. Actually,
this confluence of events suggests it’s the perfect
time for behavioral healthcare to measure program effectiveness
on consumer functioning, client progress toward
recovery, and outcomes from specific levels of care.
Learn why the DLA-20 is an important tool to add to your
arsenal.
D8 Passing Parity Was Just the Beginning
Room: Milano 8
The Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act and the
Affordable Care Act promise access to nondiscriminatory
mental health and substance use care for millions, but
only if providers and consumers fully understand and
defend their rights. The federal parity law was enacted
in 2008, and yet providers and consumers still struggle
to access and provide treatment. Learn how proper
MHPAEA and ACA implementation can affect care delivery
and lead to fewer administrative burdens and more
timely reimbursement. Hear from an organization experienced
in filing appeals and grievances and advocating for
full enforcement of state and federal parity laws.
Track: Finance
Adrienne Ellis, Mental Health Association of Maryland
D9 What Is a Health Insurance Exchange
and Why Should I Care?
Room: Milano 7
Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, the opportunity for
near-universal health insurance coverage will take off in
2014. You likely know the major components. But do you
