Letter from Mr Plummer to Mr<br />

The editor has taken every opportunity, which his si-<br />

tuation* has afforded him, to obtain information on this<br />

point, and has been enabled to recover two additional<br />

verses <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> song.<br />

The yellow and green, mentioned in <strong>the</strong> second verse,<br />

are <strong>the</strong> liveries <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> house <strong>of</strong> Home. When <strong>the</strong> Lord<br />

Home came to attend <strong>the</strong> governor, Albany, his atten-<br />

dants were arrayed in Kendal-green.— Godscr<strong>of</strong>t.<br />

• That <strong>the</strong> editor succeeded Mr Plummer in his <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> sheriff-de-<br />

pute, and has himself <strong>the</strong> honour to be a souter <strong>of</strong> Selkirk, may per-<br />

haps form <strong>the</strong> best apology for <strong>the</strong> length <strong>of</strong> this dissertation.
