However it happen for to fall,
The lyon shall be lord of all

Shall rule all Britainne to the sea ;
Ane from the Bruce's blood shal come also,
As neere as the ninth degree.

A keene man of courage and bold man of armes ;
A duke's sou dowbled (i. e. dubbed,) a borne man in France,
That shall our mirths augment, and mend all our harmes

There cannot be any doubt that this prophecywas in-
tended to excite the confidence of the Scottish nation in
the Duke of Albany, regent of Scotland, Avho arrived
from France in 1515, two years after the death of James
IV. in the fatal field of Flodden. The regent was de-
scended of Bruce by the left, i. c. by the female side,
within the ninth degree. His mother was daughter of
