Tenure of <strong>the</strong> American Association of University Professors. In December 1999, she<br />
was awarded <strong>the</strong> Hans Sigrist Prize <strong>for</strong> excellence in scholarly research (in her case <strong>for</strong><br />
her work in Gender Studies) by <strong>the</strong> University of Bern (Switzerland). She is in <strong>the</strong><br />
process of writing a hook on <strong>the</strong> French movement <strong>for</strong> "parite," <strong>the</strong> recent successful<br />
attempt to grant equal participation in politics to men and women.<br />
During <strong>the</strong> <strong>academic</strong> <strong>year</strong> 1999-2000, PROFESSOR MICHAEL WALZER gave <strong>the</strong><br />
Tasan Memorial lectures at four universities in Korea, and also lectured at Princeton and<br />
Columbia Universities, at Boston College, <strong>the</strong> University of San Diego, and <strong>the</strong> Catholic<br />
Theological Union in Chicago. He spoke in Frankfurt on <strong>the</strong> occasion of <strong>the</strong> 75' h<br />
anniversary of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>for</strong> Social Research, gave <strong>the</strong> keynote address at a conference<br />
on multiculturalism at <strong>the</strong> University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain, and lectured<br />
on global governance (<strong>the</strong> subject also of his faculty lecture at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>) at <strong>the</strong><br />
University of Padua in Italy. In May 2000, volume one of The Jewish Political Tradition,<br />
titled Authority, was published by Yale University Press, a collaborative project that he<br />
has been working on <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> past decade. His Horkheimer lectures were published in<br />
Germany under <strong>the</strong> title Vemunft, Politik and Leidenshaft (Reason, Politics, and Passion).<br />
Two of his books, The Company of Critics and On Toleration appeared in Russian trans-<br />
lations; Spheres of Justice came out in Japanese and Korean; On Toleration also appeared<br />
in Portugese, Greek, Bulgarian, and Hebrew.<br />
