With the gate speed to lead easily from barrier one, Al Strada got through his work boldly before flattening out with a powerful gallop at the 200 metres and the three length margin he established was too much for the favourite Touche, who failed, to reel him in. Astute And Agile worked early to race second in the open and laying down a challenge near the home turn he fought on solidly to finish third, five lengths from the winner. He began well and eased to get a good run third on the rails travelling nicely. He angled for an inside run at the 300m, getting through shortly afterwards, and the colt dashed clear before being eased down nearing the post for a three lengths win - his fifth in eight starts. Craiglea Falcon was back past midfield and followed the winner through on the rails from the 300m, battling on to take second.
