1. How many horses are there in your draft<br />

this year and how does this <strong>com</strong>pare to other<br />

years?<br />

“Arrowfield hasn’t had a Melbourne Sale draft for the last<br />

two years, but we have sold horses very well through bellerive<br />

Stud, including Arrowfield-bred Group and Listed Stakes winners<br />

Snitzerland, Crack A Roadie and Flying Snitzel.”<br />

2. Who are your stand<br />

out lots this year on both<br />

type and pedigree?<br />

“The Flying Spur-blue Note<br />

colt is a three-quarter brother<br />

to multiple Group One winner<br />

Mentality and is similar in type<br />

to him. We also have two very<br />

nice Hussonet fillies, one from<br />

Distinctive, a daughter of multiple<br />

Group One winner Special, and<br />

another out of the South African<br />

stakes winner Alexandra Rose.”<br />

3. Which of the first<br />

season sires have taken<br />

your eye?<br />

“All American has really captured the attention of buyers with<br />

well-developed yearlings that present themselves very well at the<br />

sales. And, like his half brother Redoute’s Choice, Manhattan Rain is<br />

leaving big, strong types with muscle. Overall, I think it’s going to<br />

be great <strong>com</strong>e October as there are several first season sires with<br />

nice horses.”<br />

4. Given the first few sales of the year have<br />

passed, how do you think the market has held up<br />

and what are your expectations for the Premier<br />

Sale market?<br />

“The sales have gone very well so far, and there is strong<br />

<strong>com</strong>petition among buyers for the attractive, athletic individual.<br />

Well-grown and well-presented horses consistently sell well.”<br />

5. Do you think there is a particular type of<br />

yearling that sells well at Premier?<br />

“Melbourne has proven to be a great sale for buyers to purchase,<br />

at a range of prices, equine athletes who can race at the highest<br />

level – among them Horse of the Year Weekend Hussler, sold by<br />

Arrowfield for $80,000 in 2006.”<br />

6. What are your thoughts on the Blue Riband<br />

session?<br />

“It’s a good innovation for Melbourne which is home of the<br />

world’s most famous staying race. We have a very attractive Starcraft<br />

colt in this session, buyers will find him!”<br />

7. Do you think it is beneficial to sell yearlings<br />

at the Premier Sale who<br />

are qualified for the<br />

chicken from the spit!”<br />
