1. How many horses are there in your draft
this year and how does this compare to other
years?
“Arrowfield hasn’t had a Melbourne Sale draft for the last
two years, but we have sold horses very well through bellerive
Stud, including Arrowfield-bred Group and Listed Stakes winners
Snitzerland, Crack A Roadie and Flying Snitzel.”
2. Who are your stand
out lots this year on both
type and pedigree?
“The Flying Spur-blue Note
colt is a three-quarter brother
to multiple Group One winner
Mentality and is similar in type
to him. We also have two very
nice Hussonet fillies, one from
Distinctive, a daughter of multiple
Group One winner Special, and
another out of the South African
stakes winner Alexandra Rose.”
3. Which of the first
season sires have taken
your eye?
“All American has really captured the attention of buyers with
well-developed yearlings that present themselves very well at the
sales. And, like his half brother Redoute’s Choice, Manhattan Rain is
leaving big, strong types with muscle. Overall, I think it’s going to
be great come October as there are several first season sires with
nice horses.”
4. Given the first few sales of the year have
passed, how do you think the market has held up
and what are your expectations for the Premier
Sale market?
“The sales have gone very well so far, and there is strong
competition among buyers for the attractive, athletic individual.
Well-grown and well-presented horses consistently sell well.”
5. Do you think there is a particular type of
yearling that sells well at Premier?
“Melbourne has proven to be a great sale for buyers to purchase,
at a range of prices, equine athletes who can race at the highest
level – among them Horse of the Year Weekend Hussler, sold by
Arrowfield for $80,000 in 2006.”

6. What are your thoughts on the Blue Riband
session?
“It’s a good innovation for Melbourne which is home of the
world’s most famous staying race. We have a very attractive Starcraft
colt in this session, buyers will find him!”
7. Do you think it is beneficial to sell yearlings
at the Premier Sale who
are qualified for the
chicken from the spit!”
