statues is on
It’s that time of the year again. The
deliberations (and betting) have begun:
Who are going to win awards this year?
I can safely say that the actors in a
couple of the movies on board this
month have a very good chance of
walking away with statues in the
upcoming awards season. Ryan Gosling
will certainly be nominated for his quiet,
brooding work in Drive, as will Tilda
Swinton for her role in We Need To Talk
About Kevin. Swinton already has an
Oscar, though, and the ways of the
Academy are inscrutable. But if you’ve
seen the fi lm, you’ll agree. Or will Brad Pitt
fi nally have luck on his side? You should
see Moneyball in any case. Pitt
announced that he’ll stop acting at 50,
and he’s already 48!
I Don’t Know How She Does It
probably won’t be nominated for any
awards, but as a light-hearted comedy, it
works. If a woman wants to have a
brilliant career and still be the perfect
mother and an amazing wife… it really is
possible… well, in this movie at least.
