CITY OF SPORTS
Rotterdam is known nationally and internationally as a city
that welcomes sports. The city offers a balanced range
of world-class sports, amateur sports, top events and
sporting facilities. Recent highlights – the World Table Tennis
Championships, the EuroGames and the Grand Départ of
the Tour de France – prove that Rotterdam’s approach works
brilliantly. 2012 has been another fantastic year so far, and
the second half promises to continue that excellent track
record. The ABN AMRO Marathon Rotterdam saw very
fast times run by both men and women, while the 40th
edition of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament was a
great success. These annual events and more, such as the
upcoming City Racing Rotterdam and the first edition of
the two-day World Ports Classic cycle race to Antwerp and
back, alternate with non-recurring top events such as the
EC Baseball and the EC Handball. Who will win? The crowd
certainly will, regardless of who takes home the medals.
CITY RACING ROTTERDAM
If fast cars, flaming tailpipes and the scent of burning rubber
on the air make your heart beat faster, Rotterdam is the
place to be on Sunday 26 August. The city where anything
can happen will be taken over by Ferraris, Lamborghinis,
Bugattis and Porsches, racing through the main roads of the
city centre. For the 8th time running, the Formula 1 circus
will test the perceptions of nearly half a million visitors in a
spectacle as breathtaking as a Grand Prix. The daring drivers
competing in the 2012 edition will include the Mercedes
AMG Petronas Formula 1 team and their very talented driver
Nico Rosberg, who won his first GP this year in China. Where
else could it be but Rotterdam, known as the Dutch city of
sports – and with good reason.
