For this image, Heus had a small trampoline set up outside,
the size of which made jumping diffi cult. “I wanted to have her
above the trees,” he says. “If people look at the camera and
smile, then everything looks much easier.”

Heus tends to scout the
local area before a shoot,
and he spotted these horses
near Heerenveen on his
way to see Schouten.
“I had to pray they would
still be there in 15 minutes,”
he says. They were, but
Schouten had to make
various peculiar noises
to get them all to stare
at her at once. ‘‘It took a
lot of shots.’’
