Mika
NANTES
London-based eclectic
popstar Mika burst
onto the scene in 2007
with his career-defi ning
song Grace Kelly,
which sold three million
copies worldwide, and
caused many of us to
spontaneously burst
into song for months.
His debut album, Life
in Cartoon Motion,
garnered him the title
of British Breakthrough
Act at the 2008 Brit
Awards. Mika (real
name Michael Holbrook
Penniman) was a
classically trained
singer, which any music
lover with a keen ear
can hear from his wide
vocal range. He’ll be
performing hits from
his most recent album,
The Boy Who Knew
Too Much, and more
on his tour, which takes
in destinations across
Europe, including
Lisbon (16 April), Milan
(21st), Marseille (23rd)
and Nantes on the
29th. mikasounds.com
talent – big name
bands gracing the
stage include The
Horrors (pictured),
Franz Ferdinand
and The Magic
Numbers, plus a
host of local acts,
such as folk singer
Lidia Damunt and
hot new Barcelonan
singer Joe
Crepúsculo. If you
want to escape from
the music for a while
(though why would
you?), then there’s
also a selection of
contemporary art
on show throughout
the two days.
This year’s theme
is Bizarre, so
expect some rather
interesting work on
display. sos48.com
