mastery of basic methodologies, requisite languages, and analytical<br />
skills; commitment to rigorous, original scholarship contributing to the<br />
advancement of knowledge; and cultivation of those virtues of mind<br />
and affection that wise scholarly judgment demands and just academic<br />
debate assumes;<br />
(2) initiates doctoral candidates into the arts, activities, and habits of good<br />
teaching; into the tasks of course design, delivery, and assessment; into<br />
the complexities of student evaluation and intellectual formation; and into<br />
the opportunities, joys, and challenges of working in classrooms rich in<br />
ethnic and racial, religious, cultural, and gender diversity;<br />
(3) encourages self-criticism, collaboration, and community in one’s scholarly<br />
life; passion, productivity, and independence of mind in one’s scholarly<br />
pursuits; and a commitment to serving God and neighbor, church and<br />
academy, through the exercise of one’s scholarly vocation.<br />
Ph.D. Learning Goals Statement<br />
In service to <strong>Princeton</strong> <strong>Theological</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong>’s mission statement and to the Ph.D.<br />
program vision statement, the Ph.D. program intends to form graduates who<br />
demonstrate excellence in the areas of (1) research and writing, (2) teaching,<br />
and (3) academic citizenship. Doctoral level graduates of <strong>Princeton</strong> <strong>Theological</strong><br />
<strong>Seminary</strong> will:<br />

of the history and methods of their field of study and the major theoretical<br />
positions and contributors to their field;<br />

of a particular area of their field of study;<br />

more cognate disciplines;<br />

with peers in academic or professional societies;<br />

(including the formation, academic assessment, and advisement of students)<br />
through participation as a member of the teaching team in M.Div.<br />
courses with a member of the <strong>PTS</strong> faculty and through completion of a<br />
course in higher education course design and delivery, classroom management,<br />
and assessment of course content;<br />

scholars who serve the church and academy.<br />
Admission Requirements<br />
All applicants for admission to the Ph.D. program at <strong>Princeton</strong> <strong>Theological</strong><br />
<strong>Seminary</strong> must hold the degree of B.A., or its equivalent, from an approved<br />
college or university, and ordinarily the degree of M.Div., or its equivalent, from<br />
