THE Ministry for Agriculture and Land Affairs
has appointed the new Chief Land Claims
Commissioner, Andrew Mphela, as well as the
new Regional Land Claims Commissioner for
the Limpopo office, Tele Maphoto.
The appointment of the two commissioners
was confirmed by Cabinet last month.
According to Godfrey Mdhlulithe, spokesperson
for the Ministry for Agriculture and
Land Affairs, prior to his appointment, Mphela
served in various senior positions in the public
sector, including the Regional Land Claims
Commissioner for Gauteng and North West,
Deputy Chief Land Claims Commissioner, as
well the Director-General of the Institutional
Improvement and Development department
in the office of the Western Cape Province
vehicle at The Junction.
The incident occurred last Friday morning at
around 05:00.
The driver was dead on-scene, and his body
taken to the Letaba Hospital.

Mphela also served as the Acting Chief Land
Claims Commissioner from April 2008.
An attorney by profession, Maphoto has
extensively been engaged in the legal profession,
working for several organisations.
He served as the Chief Legal Counsel for the
Department of Public Enterprises before joining
the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) as the
regional head in the Limpopo Province.
"The Ministry is confident that the two
appointments will result in improved service
delivery in the Commission on Restitution of
Land Rights, and serve as an impetus towards
the acceleration of land and agrarian reform in
the country", said Mdhluli.
