Hydraulic Valve Lifter Models<br />

12.1.4 Engine Runs Too Hot - Oil Temperature Above 110oC (230oF)<br />

Possible Cause Remedy<br />

1) Too much oil in crankcase Check oil level & adjust if necessary<br />

2) Low oil level Check oil level & add oil if necessary<br />

3) Poor quality oil Oil change, use specified oil<br />

4) Clogged oil filter Change filter<br />

5) Excessive piston blow by Common reason: worn or sticking piston rings,<br />

complete engine overhaul necessary<br />

6) Faulty bearings If metallic particles are present in oil, complete<br />

engine overhaul necessary<br />

7) Faulty oil temperature gauge Exchange gauge<br />

12.1.5 Unsatisfactory Power Output<br />

Possible Cause Remedy<br />

1) Ignition failure Check ignition circuits; check wiring and pickups;<br />

replace ignition units.<br />

2) Too much oil in crankcase Check oil level & adjust if necessary<br />

3) Insufficient fuel supply Check fuel supply system<br />

4) Fuel not according to specifications Re-fuel with specified fuel<br />

5) Incorrect throttle adjustment Re-adjust throttle fitting<br />

6) Leak in air intake Check and tighten all connections, check carby<br />

sockets.<br />

7) Carby diaphragm damage renew diaphragm<br />

12.1.6 Low Oil Pressure<br />

Possible Cause Remedy<br />

1) Insufficient oil in sump Check oil level & replenish as necessary<br />

2) High oil temperature Refer to Para. 10.4<br />

3) Faulty pressure gauge, sender or wiring Check gauge, sender & wiring. Renew as<br />

necessary.<br />

4) Faulty crankshaft bearings Engine overhaul<br />

5) Relief valve not sealing Inspect, replace back after cleaning<br />

12.1.7 Engine Keeps Running with Ignition Off<br />

Possible Cause Remedy<br />

1) Idle speed too high Adjust to proper idle speed (900 RPM)<br />

2) Faulty ignition switch Check switch & cables. Repair/replace as<br />

necessary<br />

3) Overheated engine Conduct cooling run at 900 RPM<br />

12.1.8 Excessive Oil Consumption<br />

Possible Cause Remedy<br />

1) Worn, broken or wrongly fitted piston rings Repair/engine overhaul necessary<br />

2) Poor oil quality Oil change, use specified oil<br />

3) Worn valve guides Repair of cylinder head necessary<br />

4) Oil leaks Seal leaks<br />
