AQUACHECK SOIL MOISTURE PROBES
Rising input costs in general, consistent and historic high annual Eskom tariff increases and continuous pressure on profitability and
sustainability in irrigated agriculture have necessitated an in-depth rethink of how we are going to manage our resources if we are to
overcome today’s challenges in irrigation farming.
Authorities on sustainability in agriculture all agree that a much needed increase in efficiency and subsequent improved ways in dealing
with our scarce resources, hold the key if irrigated agriculture is to prevail in future generations. There are many factors in irrigation farming
like high energy cost, water scarcity, expensive fertilizer and other input costs, which continue to squeeze the margins of the irrigation
farmer today. Every action taken on the irrigation farm needs to be scrutinised and benchmarked against efficiency norms.
AquaCheck’s roots in South African irrigation industry go back to 1995 and in 2005 AquaCheck and business associates launched South
Africa’s first independent continuous logging soil moisture probe. This initial continuous logging probe created a paradigm shift in day-today
on-farm irrigation scheduling practices.
Today, AquaCheck probes are available in 5 continents and offer a wide range of probe lengths, types and interface options. We aim
to satisfy specific needs and probe lengths vary from 200 to 1500mm. Sensors are spaced 100mm apart for the shorter probes. The
diameter of all our probes is 32mm. With its patented design, and unique construction, moisture contamination on electronic components
inside the probe, has effectively been eliminated.
Our probes have passed the following international standards:
• FCC (Federal Communications Commission USA);
• CE (European Countries); and
• IC (Industry Canada).
Different options are available to transfer the data from the probe to the computer:
• Hand logger;
• Short distance telemetry; and
• Network and GPRS based independent telemetry units.
AquaCheck has state of the art software package available consisting of:
• CropGraph Pro:
This is the main software package installed on a client’s computer with a server-based database.
• CropGraph Online:
This is the internet browser version of the program. The client uses a username and password to get access to the data and real-time
irrigation recommendations on the internet. The main advantage of this program is that both the farmer and his consultants can view the
same data at the same time and therefore improving efficiency and latency in the decision making process.
AquaCheck is proud to be part of an initiative to increase irrigation water-use efficiency on 5 continents and thus making a contribution
and difference world-wide.
