This family <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> minute beetles lives in leaf litter<br />

<strong>and</strong> in associati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>with</str<strong>on</strong>g> decaying wood, <strong>and</strong> fungi,<br />

<strong>and</strong> even in spore tubes <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> bracket fungi. They are<br />

certainly present <strong>and</strong> diverse in <str<strong>on</strong>g>Cuba</str<strong>on</strong>g> but no identified<br />

species records have been published. They<br />

have been recovered from guano in caves.<br />

This scavenging family is mostly Holarctic in<br />

distributi<strong>on</strong>, <strong>and</strong> ranges from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Mexican Plateau<br />

northwards in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Nearctic. It does not occur in<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> West Indies or from Guatemala to sou<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>rn<br />

South America.<br />

The small carri<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> round fungus beetles<br />

This family has diverse habits, <strong>and</strong> members<br />

feed <strong>on</strong> fungi, carri<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> animal dung. They may<br />

live in leaf litter <strong>and</strong> caves <strong>and</strong> may be in nests <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

vertebrates <strong>and</strong> social insects. The <str<strong>on</strong>g>Cuba</str<strong>on</strong>g>n fauna is<br />

poorly studied <strong>and</strong> unreported genera are present.<br />

The fauna <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Neotropical Regi<strong>on</strong> is summarized<br />

by Peck et al. (1998).<br />
