FAMILY PTILIIDAE The fea<strong>the</strong>r-winged beetles This family <strong>of</strong> minute beetles lives in leaf litter and in association <strong>with</strong> decaying wood, and fungi, and even in spore tubes <strong>of</strong> bracket fungi. They are certainly present and diverse in <strong>Cuba</strong> but no identified species records have been published. They have been recovered from guano in caves. FAMILY AGYRTIDAE This scavenging family is mostly Holarctic in distribution, and ranges from <strong>the</strong> Mexican Plateau northwards in <strong>the</strong> Nearctic. It does not occur in <strong>the</strong> West Indies or from Guatemala to sou<strong>the</strong>rn South America. 25. FAMILY LEIODIDAE The small carrion and round fungus beetles This family has diverse habits, and members feed on fungi, carrion and animal dung. They may live in leaf litter and caves and may be in nests <strong>of</strong> vertebrates and social insects. The <strong>Cuba</strong>n fauna is poorly studied and unreported genera are present. The fauna <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Neotropical Region is summarized by Peck et al. (1998).
