ASSESS
In their journals, have students:
Describe how their team worked together when they created their performance.
Write what they will do to build upon the work they have done to prepare for the performance.
Write what they learned about poetry.
Enduring Understanding
Tell what working together on the performance taught you about living in harmony with each other.
Teacher makes note and documents:
After discussing the anchor work, notes if the students have a better understanding of poetry.
Notes how all or selected students progressed in their vocal delivery.
Notes how the class has progressed in their teamwork efforts since Model Lesson One.
Uses video to document the creative task.
VOCABULARY manipulate, Choral Reading, Solo Reading, puppeteer, narrator, reverse order, solemnly, give and take focus.
Helpful Hints and Success Strategies:
Before the Lesson
All carefully gather puppets scripts with found poems together for each group. This will save much time during the lesson.
Please check that all puppets and scripts are available before the lesson
Grades 2-3 – teacher matches groups that will take turns teaming for puppetry and narrator/musicians.
Grades 4-5 – Groups review found poem and divide into narrator, musician and puppeteer roles amongst group.
During the Lesson
Groups alternate using the screens and practicing without screens.
Teachers/Artists travel to observe rehearsals and provide feedback to groups
Following Lesson
Teacher provides additional rehearsal time before Lesson 10.
