<strong>Management</strong> for women following treatment for early stage<br />
cervical cancer<br />
• In general, treatment of early invasive cervical cancer (FIGO stage<br />
Ia1, Ia2, Ib1 <strong>and</strong> IIa1) is outwith responsibility of National Screening<br />
<strong>Programme</strong>.<br />
• Follow-up of stage Ia1<br />
If conservative treatment for cervical cancer performed leaving<br />
residual cervix then cytological follow up identical to that for highgrade<br />
CIN. Cervical cytology should be taken @ 6 <strong>and</strong> 12 months<br />
post treatment followed by annual cytology for next 9 years before<br />
return to routine recall to 65 years. The NSP will continue to provide<br />
recall.<br />
• Follow-up of stage Ia2/ Ib1<br />
If conservative management for Ia2/ Ib1 disease was by simple/<br />
radical trachelectomy then cytological follow-up determined by<br />
management policy of gynaecological oncologist.
