Management for women following treatment for early stage cervical cancer • In general, treatment of early invasive cervical cancer (FIGO stage Ia1, Ia2, Ib1 and IIa1) is outwith responsibility of National Screening Programme. • Follow-up of stage Ia1 If conservative treatment for cervical cancer performed leaving residual cervix then cytological follow up identical to that for highgrade CIN. Cervical cytology should be taken @ 6 and 12 months post treatment followed by annual cytology for next 9 years before return to routine recall to 65 years. The NSP will continue to provide recall. • Follow-up of stage Ia2/ Ib1 If conservative management for Ia2/ Ib1 disease was by simple/ radical trachelectomy then cytological follow-up determined by management policy of gynaecological oncologist.
Management for women following treatment for early stage cervical cancer (continued) • Total hysterectomy where patient has invasive or early invasive carcinoma of cervix Further follow up determined by gynaecologist/ oncologist, which might include subsequent vault cytology and/ or colposcopy. Responsibility of clinician to ensure that patient properly followed up; she will not be subject to further recall by NSP. • Total hysterectomy for carcinoma of cervix also treated by radiotherapy Patient will receive further follow-up determined by gynaecologist/ oncologist, which might include colposcopy. Responsibility of clinician to ensure that patient properly followed up; she will not be subject to further recall by NSP.
