Testing of borderline >35 years may be useful in UK but colposcopy referral rate increased. • UK pilot sites. • Follow up data from TOMBOLA suggested single +ve HPV test with referral to colposcopy does not improve detection of high grade CIN over following 3 yrs compared to repeat cytology – risk of abnormal cytology over 5 yrs about 15% (Castle et al, 2002) – consider cytology as triage (Ronco et al, 2010, unpublished).
