CAN THE REOPENING OF A RAILWAY
STATION BECOME A REALITY? CONTINUED

Wales and Great Britain.
We do not suggest that our own Station would
be in direct competition with Severn Tunnel
Junction. We propose something uniquely
different. We have a unique selling point, that
the entire population of the villages of about
9000 can access the centre by foot or cycle in
less than 15 minutes. Therefore, unlike Severn
Tunnel junction, which is a Parkway. We
propose an environmentally friendly Walkway
station. In other words, car and congestion
unfriendly. Drop off facilities yes for the few,
the so called “kiss and drop”. But there is no
need for car parking, when that can be
avoided. The new plans for enlarged parking at
Severn Tunnel Junction serves that desire. We
propose a station at the heart of the villages.
There is no better heart than the proposed
Community Centre site on the B4245 and
access to the main bus routes. As a Community
Station, profits from ticket sales can be
ploughed back into the community.
We have an opportunity now to put this case
forward, with the billions being spent on
electrification. If we don’t get our Station in
before the new electric overhead cables, then
we may never achieve our aims. We are aiming
for a date of March 2018 to open a new station.
This timescale is determined by the
replacement rail franchises of 2018. We need
to be discussing with the likes of First Group
about the electric services of the future calling
at Magor, so they can build this into their bid.
This will be a struggle and from the support
already shown, we know the community is
behind us. What we need is help and the
community standing beside us. As many hands
