THE DALE LLEWELLYN
MEMORIAL FESTIVAL OF
SCHOOL RUGBY
“Don’t count each day make each day count”
was Dales Advice to young people and this was
the Theme of the festival. The Young players
took this to heart and made each ball count
and they played with “Pride and won or lost
with dignity.” Emphasis is placed on having
fun and playing the game with friends, and
close friendships being formed between the
schools through a shared love of the game.
The Undy Rugby Academy hosted a mini
school rugby festival in memory of Dale
Llewellyn who died on January 2nd 2013. At
the age of 25. Dale was known to the schools
through his work with Attribute Sports which
took him into many schools were he coached
rugby.
The festival attracted five schools,
Magor/Undy, Eveswell, Mount Pleasant,
Shirenewton and Northcote Lodge School,
London. The event was very successful with
over 75 primary school children playing a
very high standard of rugby. They were
refereed by Simon Alsopp a Professional WRU
referee. All the children are taught to respect
each other and value the key role of the
referee.
Northcote Lodge were the festival winners
with Eveswell School runners up. The
Sportsman award went to Shirenewton
School. The games were hard fought and
highly competitive but most of all everyone
had fun and learnt a lot. Trophies were
