Determination of microalbuminuria was made
also at 6 months after treatment start and we observed
a remarkable drop in the patients treated
with ACEi (30%) compared to those treated with
other classes of antihypertensive drugs, so the regulation
of lowering blood pressure drugs depends of
the levels of microalbuminuria – also it can be consider
as a barometer for the adjustment of the doses
Aims
To examine the association between age at menarche
and diabetes.
Methods
We analyzed 326 women aged 23-81 year, newly
diagnosed with T2DM evaluated in a diabetic
outpatient clinic (Diabetic Center N.C. Paulescu,
Bucharest, Romania). Parameters analyzed were:
age, age at menarche, BMI (kg/m2), waist circumference,
FBG, total cholesterol, HbA1c, insulinemia,
HDL cholesterol, triglycerides. We used
Spearman‘s rho and Pearson correlation SPSS.15.0
with p statistical signifi cant ≤0.05.
Results
A number of 77 women have the menarche before
aged 12, and the rest (249) had the menarche
after age 12. We further analyzed in these 2 groups
the correlation with plasma insulin, BMI, FBG
(fasting blood glucose), HbA1C, total cholesterol,
HDLc. The mean age (years) for the 2 groups (for
female with menarche before 12 years old and after
12 years old) was: 11.53/14.4. The differences between
the groups were: BMI 3<strong>3.</strong>17/32.06, HbA1C
– 16.65/15.04, TC – 211.09/221, HDLc- 51.55/50.06,
TG- 175.66/162. The main results are presented in
table.
Conclusions
Age at menarche is an indicator of maturation
and timing of puberty which could be related with
some disturbances later during the life in girls and
the younger aged at the menarche might lead to
some chronic diseases. In younger women we observed
a decreased age at menarche occurrence. An
earlier age at menarche seems to be related with
obesity, higher values of HbA1c and triglycerides,
and may be linked with the development of diabetes.
In clinical practice we can apply this conclusion,
by an earlier monitoring of this women group
to detect and monitoring diabetes onset.
It is known from a long time that type 2 diabetes
is closely associated with overweight/obesity. Recent
advances in the knowledge of the biology of
the adipose tissue raised the hope that the diabetogenic
infl uences of overweight will be soon uncovered.
For that a multidisciplinary team has been
created in order to integrate the clinical, biochemical/biological
and histological data obtained in
obese type 2 diabetic patients versus nondiabetic
obese subjects.
Aims
We intend to identify the relationship between
morfo-functional particularities of adipocytes from
different adipose compartments in nondiabetic
obese and in normal weight type 2 diabetics. Among
