Efficient implementation of such queries in relational databases is possible. Nonlinear alignments are significantly better than linear ones for querying purposes. Integrated maps derived from nonlinear alignments can be useful for visualization if used with appropriate caution. It is worth noting that other approaches to this problem are possible. Dynamic alignment aligns maps at query time about the markers of interest; this strategy is used by Chromoscope in the Genomes Division at NCBI [6]. The resulting
