Here were beginnings, and the following century witnessed a remarkable increase of interest in globe con- struction. As the true position of places on the earth's surface, as well as the distance between any two places, could best be represented on a globe, cartographers and globe makers became active in their endeavors to meet the desires of those interested in geography.
